About The Position

Veolia Australia & New Zealand is seeking an experienced Health and Safety Advisor to join their team at New Zealand's first Thermal Hydrolysis Process (THP) Facility in Wellington. This role is primarily field-based (80%) and focuses on providing front-line health and safety compliance support, with an emphasis on process safety, risk management, and operational excellence within advanced sludge treatment operations.

Requirements

• New Zealand Certificate in Workplace Health and Safety (Level 4) or equivalent
• NZISM Practitioner Accreditation
• Industry experience in Process Safety, LOTO, and Management of Change (MOC)
• Experience implementing safety systems
• Working knowledge of all relevant Safety legislation
• Current Driver's License
• Intermediate to advanced computer skills (Google Suite)
• Strong ability to prepare written documentation and reports
• New Zealand citizen, resident, or have already secured the right to work in New Zealand and therefore hold a valid visa.

Responsibilities

• Implement, monitor, and audit management systems to ensure adherence to safety protocols.
• Integrate Permit to Work, LOTO, and High Risk Management Standards (HRMS).
• Steward critical control management systems and escalate deviations to the SMF Supervisor.
• Support operational teams in applying appropriate tools to manage critical risks.
• Conduct inspections and audits in accordance with internal schedules.
• Monitor operations against company, client, and legislative requirements.
• Communicate and implement changes to legislation, regulations, and standards.
• Finalize and communicate audit findings; coach operations to close out agreed actions.
• Support development and maintenance of site SHEQ management plans.
• Develop JSEAs, Plant Risk Registers, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and Emergency Plans.
• Generate safety critical control points and monitor compliance.
• Implement injury prevention and wellbeing programs.
• Deliver SHEQ-related training and communications.
• Facilitate risk assessments and safe operating procedure development.
• Build AlwaysSafe Culture through toolboxes, interactions, and hazard reporting.
• Support safe installation and operation of new equipment.
• Identify and report on high-risk factors.
• Monitor SHEQ strategies and track effectiveness.
• Produce quantitative and qualitative reports demonstrating improvement.
• Maintain comprehensive records of inspections, findings, and audits.
• Function as an effective member of the VANZ SHEQ team.
• Maintain positive working relationships with management, employees, and external parties.
