About The Position

The Health and Physical Education Consultant provides statewide leadership, guidance, and support to districts and schools to ensure high-quality implementation of North Carolina’s Healthful Living Standards. This role focuses on advancing student health, wellness, and physical literacy through standards-based instruction, professional development, and cross-agency collaboration. The consultant provides leadership in making recommendations for policy, program, and fiscal operations as appropriate to the needs of Health and Physical Education. The consultant may be asked to help support state and federal initiatives. This position is expected to provide expertise in current instructional practices in health and physical education.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in the education field to which assigned from an appropriately accredited institution and four years of specifically related experience in public education; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Responsibilities

  • Support the implementation of North Carolina Health Education and Physical Education standards across K–12 settings.
  • Develop and disseminate instructional resources, guidance documents, and best practices.
  • Design and deliver statewide professional development for educators and district leaders.
  • Facilitate training on standards, assessment, and evidence-based instructional practices.
  • Support educator understanding of whole child approaches, including physical, mental, and social-emotional wellness.
  • Provide technical assistance to improve instructional quality and student outcomes.
  • Facilitate the review and revision of Health and Physical Education standards and related resources.
  • Analyze data to inform program improvement and monitor implementation effectiveness.
  • Support integration of assessment strategies aligned to standards.
  • Interpret and communicate state and federal policies related to health and physical education.
  • Represent NCDPI in statewide and national meetings, committees, and initiatives.
