About The Position

The Coordinator of Health, Physical Education, Driver’s Education, Family Life Education, and Student Wellness (HPE) provides leadership in the development, implementation of, and support for the school division’s K-12 instructional program as well as designs and delivers professional learning opportunities for all educators with emphasis on embedded school-level coaching and support. The Coordinator develops communities of practice and networks of teacher-leaders across the school division to ensure ongoing, data- driven adult learning opportunities focused on implementing interdisciplinary approaches, high quality Tier 1 learning, and continuous growth.

Requirements

  • Five (5) years of classroom experience
  • Hold a Virginia Collegiate Professional license with an endorsement in Health and Physical Education and be eligible for a Postgraduate Professional license
  • Knowledge of curriculum design evidenced by delivering innovative teaching and learning opportunities for K-12 students and hands on support for athletic and wellness events
  • Design and deliver high quality professional learning opportunities to administrators, teachers, and staff
  • Knowledge of current initiatives and issues in Wellness, HPE and Family Life Education in K-12 educational organizations
  • Promote communication and writing across grade-level and school-level professional learning communities
  • Possess effective time management and organizational skills
  • Support, collaborate, and develop professional learning communities with K-12 educators to support K-12 students’ continuous learning and growth
  • Support many events beyond the work day related to community partnership programs
  • Work cooperatively in a team environment to meet goals
  • Organize and perform work independently
  • Meet deadlines for all work even when working on multiple projects
  • Show sustained effort and enthusiasm in quality and quantity of work

Nice To Haves

  • Master's degree in Health and Physical Education or related field
  • Central Office or building-level administrative experience

Responsibilities

  • Serve as chairperson of curriculum committees and support the development and delivery of K-12 curriculum as needed
  • Identify instructional strategies and resource materials to identify and implement curriculum
  • Represent the school division in the work of regional, state, and/or national curriculum associations and study groups, as appropriate
  • Guide the development, revision, implementation, and evaluation of manuals, curriculum, guidelines, and professional learning
  • Collaborate and participate in professional learning communities, develop communities of practice, and perform classroom visitations and technical assistance to teachers and building-level leaders
  • Provide input regarding the addition of new courses and schedule changes in Stafford’s program of studies
  • Collaborate with educational colleagues to integrate and/or align the wellness, HPE, and athletics program with the Stafford curriculum and instructional program
  • Recommend ways in which the curriculum can be adjusted to meet the unique learning needs of all students
  • Maintain knowledge of and trends in curriculum and staff development
  • Support the administration, monitoring, and evaluation of the wellness, HPE, and driver education programs
  • Support the development of grants
  • Develop and review budget requests for wellness, HPE and driver education programs
  • Responsible for gathering and responding to state reports including but not limited to driver education, HPE, fitness, and Family Life Education
  • Coordinate with procurement contracts relating to job assignment
  • Provide support for HPE teachers, Adaptive Physical Education Teachers, Driver Education Building Coordinators, and Elementary, Lead Teachers
  • Provide new teachers orientation and support ongoing professional growth among teachers
  • Design and support professional learning opportunities to include job-embedded coaching and the development of teacher leadership
  • Promote evidence-based effective practices and high-quality professional learning opportunities to teachers regarding professional organizations, graduate study programs, scholarships and other professional learning opportunities
  • Provide technical support to school administrators and promote learning to improve the quality of instruction at their schools
  • Engage in ongoing professional development relevant to position
  • Respond to written and oral requests for information promptly and thoroughly
  • Maintain a clean, neat appearance and dress appropriate to position and duties
  • Maintain a record of appropriate attendance and punctuality
  • Serve as a role model for students, colleagues, and the general public
  • Work in close harmony with supervisor(s) and colleagues
