About The Position

Idaho State University seeks an accomplished and dynamic leader to serve as Head Softball Coach for its NCAA Division I softball program. Competing in the Big Sky Conference, Idaho State Softball has established itself as one of the premier programs in the league, with a strong tradition of competitive success, student-athlete development, and championship performance. The Head Coach will provide visionary leadership for all aspects of the program, including student-athlete recruitment and development, competitive success, staff leadership, fundraising, community engagement, and operational management. The successful candidate will foster a culture of excellence that supports student-athletes academically, athletically, and personally while advancing the University's mission and values. This position is not eligible for new visa sponsorship at this time. Candidates who already hold valid U.S. work authorization may be considered.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree
  • A minimum of 5 years of coaching experience in a coaching position with a high level of responsibility at the Division I level, and/or head coaching experience at any collegiate level.

  • Successful coaching experience of five years or more as a Head Coach, Associate Head Coach or Assistant Coach and Recruiting Coordinator at the Division I Level.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee and direct all aspects of the women’s softball program during pre-season, in-season, and off-season periods.
  • Manage and be accountable for the prescribed annual softball program budget. Work with the Department of Athletics Business Officer to prepare and forecast budget, allocate resources effectively, and operate the program within the prescribed budget.
  • Coordinate with External Relations and Marketing to help grow softball attendance.
  • Participate with Associate AD for Development and Director of Athletics to steward program support. Participate in the cultivation and solicitation of charitable gifts when invited.
  • Hire, supervise, develop and evaluate assistant coaches.
  • Recruit, retain, and graduate successful student-athletes for Idaho State University and the women’s softball program. Develop, direct and supervise a comprehensive recruiting program with the goal of sustainable high academic and athletic performance, retention and graduation of the majority of all softball student athletes.
  • Provide and direct instruction and coaching across the program with the goal of player development and maximum performance. Direct strategic decisions and training.
  • Work effectively and collaboratively with medical staff, including athletic trainers, nutritionist, team physicians and strength coach to ensure the health and well being of student athletes.
  • Develop a competitive regional NCAA Division I softball schedule.
  • Ensure proper supervision of athletes during practice, travel to and from competition, and during competition.
  • Ensure proper maintenance and repair of program equipment and coordinate appropriate replacement schedule and budget.
  • Build and maintain relationships with alumni, organizations, high schools, and other groups to promote the softball and other athletic programs at Idaho State University.
  • Develop and maintain a thorough knowledge and commitment to follow NCAA, Big Sky Conference, and Idaho State University rules, policies, and regulations.
  • Participate at a high level in all Department meetings, serving as an important part of the Department leadership team. Contribute to and develop a culture of excellence in Idaho State University Athletics.
  • Coordinate with Strength and Conditioning Staff to develop, execute and supervise effective strength and conditioning programs for conference competition seasons, training seasons and summer program.
  • Teach 1 softball class as prescribed by the College of Education.
  • Develop, promote and operate an effective camp program with the goal of developing regional talent; building relationships; identifying, evaluating and recruiting student athletes. Properly account for revenue and determine the use whether to enhance coaching incomes, provide NCAA compliant resources and stipends for players in the summer, provide equipment upgrades or budget enhancements, or serve other purposes related to coaches and program.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Director of Athletics or the Associate Athletic Director.
