About The Position

The Ankeny Community School District (CSD) is seeking a Head Varsity Girls Cross Country Coach. This role is responsible for the organization, development, and leadership of the varsity athletic program, aligning with the district's mission and core values. The coach will oversee practice planning, skill development, and strategy design for competition. Key duties include mentoring student-athletes, organizing camps, managing budgets, collaborating with other coaches, and ensuring adherence to all district, conference, and state association rules and regulations. Requirements

  • Valid coaching license through the Iowa Board of Educational Examiners or the ability to obtain it prior to the start of the season.
  • Strong knowledge of coaching techniques and procedures.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively lead, instruct, and supervise student athletes and a coaching staff.
  • Ability to work under pressure and remain calm.
  • Proficient in organization, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Background Clearance.

Responsibilities

  • Organize, develop, and lead the varsity athletic program.
  • Coordinate practice planning, skill development, and design strategies for competition.
  • Mentor student-athletes.
  • Organize camps.
  • Manage program budget.
  • Collaborate with other varsity coaches.
  • Demonstrate adherence to district, conference, and state association rules and regulations.
  • Attend and effectively coach in all scheduled games.
  • Lead, organize, and be present at all practices.
  • Establish performance criteria for competition and evaluate student athletic abilities.
  • Accompany and supervise students at all athletic competitions.
  • Establish the fundamental philosophy, skills, and techniques to be taught to student-athletes.
  • Train and inform staff on coaching philosophy, skills, and techniques.
  • Ensure all coaches work together toward a common goal and provide unity with feeder schools and affiliated youth leagues.
  • Collaborate with and utilize the district’s strength and conditioning program.
  • Adhere to injury prevention procedures.
  • Delegate and assign specific duties to coaching staff, supervise implementation, and analyze staff effectiveness.
  • Make recommendations regarding the hiring and/or retention of assistant coaches.
  • Direct, supervise, and regularly evaluate the performance of all assistant coaches.
  • Apply and enforce student discipline during athletic contests, ensuring sportsmanship.
  • Work collaboratively to enhance sportsmanship by spectators.
  • Monitor and enforce student eligibility criteria for participation.
  • Advise students and parents on the athletic code of conduct.
  • Work collaboratively to schedule competitions and coordinate arrangements.
  • Promote the athletic program to increase interest and participation.
  • Maintain inventory of uniforms and equipment.
  • Maintain all required student-athlete personal and medical records.
  • Take precautions to protect student-athletes, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  • Annually establish and meet performance goals.
  • Be familiar with and adhere to the Coaches Handbook, Employee Handbook, Board of Educational Examiners Professional Code of Ethics and Conduct, and board policies.
  • Participate in staff development training programs, faculty meetings, and special events.
  • Perform other related duties, as assigned.
