Head of Supply Chain (Robot Production)

Genesis•San Carlos, CA
•Onsite

About The Position

Genesis is hiring a Head of Supply Chain to own and build the supply chain for its general-purpose robot as it moves from prototype through production and scales from tens of units to hundreds and thousands. The role covers every bill-of-materials part and the suppliers and manufacturing partners behind them, in the United States and internationally. It combines strategy and hands-on execution, with regular work alongside suppliers, manufacturing partners, engineers, and company leadership. The Head of Supply Chain will set the path to volume production, including make-versus-buy decisions, regional footprint, sourcing strategy, domestic content for regulated markets, and supplier redundancy. The role owns contract manufacturer and partner relationships, cost and capacity planning, supplier quality, supply-chain risk, and the development of the organization and systems needed to scale. The position is on-site in the Bay Area and involves travel to supplier and partner sites, including internationally, up to 40%.

Requirements

  • Experience leading the supply chain organization for a complex electromechanical product from initial builds through scaled production.
  • Experience building a supply base from scratch or moving it to a new geography.
  • Experience building and leading a supply chain organization, hiring managers, and managing the organization using metrics; ability to perform hands-on work in a small team.
  • Experience negotiating with contract manufacturers and tier-one suppliers at the executive level and closing long-term agreements.
  • Experience sourcing across regions, including Asia and North America, and moving production between regions.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage BOM cost reduction from pilot to volume, with detailed understanding of product costs.
  • Ability to read drawings and GD&T and understand actuators, gearboxes, motors, and PCBAs well enough to engage constructively with engineers.
  • Fluency in BOMs, change control, should-cost, and MRP.
  • Typically 10 or more years of experience in supply chain, sourcing, or manufacturing operations for complex hardware, including experience in both a mature organization and a company building its operations.
  • Ability to operate with urgency and without an established playbook or fully developed systems.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in robotics, electric vehicles, aerospace, consumer electronics, or medical devices.
  • Engineering degree preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Set supply chain strategy from pilot production to volume, including make-versus-buy decisions, regional footprint, domestic content, sourcing strategy, and the sequence for scaling each part of the supply chain.
  • Select and manage contract manufacturers and manufacturing partners, including executive relationships, agreements, capacity commitments, cost and quality performance, and transfers of sub-assemblies between regions and partners.
  • Own the cost roadmap, including should-cost and total-cost models, pilot-to-target cost reductions, tooling and capital decisions, and long-term agreements with volume-based pricing; partner with Finance on working capital and Legal on supplier agreements.
  • Build the supplier base for critical sub-systems, including actuators, gears, motors, structures, PCBAs, harnesses, shells, batteries, and sensors, with two qualified sources for each critical part in the required regions.
  • Manage capacity, lead times, constrained-part allocation, tariffs and trade exposure, geopolitical risk, and single points of failure, and develop plans to address each risk.
  • Build and lead the sourcing, supplier development, planning, supplier quality, and logistics organization; hire leaders, establish operating cadence and performance metrics, and report to company leadership and the board.
  • Establish scalable supply-chain systems with Manufacturing Engineering and Platform, including part numbering, BOM and change control, MRP and ERP, supplier portal, and traceability.
  • Participate in product design discussions early, bringing supplier capabilities and cost considerations into development and steering designs toward scalable, cost-effective production.
  • Travel to supplier and partner sites, including international locations, up to 40%.
