Head of Supply Chain (Robot Production)

Genesis•San Carlos, CA
•Onsite

About The Position

The Head of Supply Chain will own and build the supply chain for Genesis’s general-purpose robot as it moves from prototype through production, covering all parts in the bill of materials and the suppliers and manufacturing partners behind them. The role will establish supply chain operations in the United States and abroad, grow the organization, and scale the supply base, partners, and processes from tens of units to hundreds and thousands. The position combines strategy and hands-on execution. It includes shaping make-versus-buy decisions, regional footprint, sourcing strategy, cost and capacity plans, supplier and manufacturing-partner relationships, and the systems and organization needed for production at scale. The role works closely with suppliers, manufacturing partners, engineers, Finance, Legal, Manufacturing Engineering, Platform, and company leadership. It is on-site in the Bay Area and involves travel to supplier and partner sites, including internationally, up to 40%. Compensation is a competitive salary and meaningful equity; the range is shared in the first conversation.

Requirements

  • Has led the supply chain organization for a complex electromechanical product from first builds through scaled production, and has built a supply base from scratch or moved it to a new geography.
  • Has experience in robotics, electric vehicles, aerospace, consumer electronics, or medical devices.
  • Has built a supply chain organization, hired managers, and managed it using metrics, while remaining able to execute hands-on in a small team.
  • Has negotiated with contract manufacturers and tier-one suppliers at executive level and closed long-term agreements that withstand pressure.
  • Has sourced across regions, including Asia and North America, and moved production between regions.
  • Can explain a BOM cost reduction from pilot to volume, part by part, and identify key cost drivers.
  • Can read drawings and GD&T; understands actuators, gearboxes, motors, and PCBAs well enough to challenge engineers constructively; and is fluent in BOMs, change control, should-cost, and MRP.
  • Defaults to urgency, operates without an established playbook, and is comfortable working before systems exist.
  • Typically has 10 or more years of experience in supply chain, sourcing, or manufacturing operations for complex hardware, including experience in both a mature organization and a company building its operations.
  • Will work on-site in the Bay Area and travel to supplier and partner sites, including internationally, up to 40%.

Nice To Haves

  • Engineering degree preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Set supply chain strategy from pilot to volume, including make-versus-buy decisions, regional footprint, domestic content for regulated markets, sourcing strategy, and the sequence for scaling each subsystem.
  • Own executive-level contract manufacturer and partner relationships, including selection, agreements, capacity commitments, cost and quality performance, and transfers of sub-assemblies across regions and partners.
  • Own the cost roadmap, including should-cost and total-cost models, pilot-to-target cost reduction, tooling and capital decisions, and long-term volume-based pricing agreements; partner with Finance on working capital and Legal on supplier agreements.
  • Build the supplier base for critical subsystems, including actuators, gears and motors, structures, PCBAs, harnesses, shells, batteries, and sensors; establish two qualified sources for every critical part in required regions.
  • Manage capacity and supply risk, including lead times, allocation for constrained parts, tariff and trade exposure, geopolitical risk, and single points of failure, with plans to address each.
  • Build and lead the supply chain organization across sourcing, supplier development, planning, supplier quality, and logistics; hire leaders, establish operating cadence and metrics, and report to company leadership and the board.
  • Establish scalable operating systems with Manufacturing Engineering and Platform, including part numbering, BOM and change control, MRP and ERP, supplier portal, and traceability.
  • Participate in product design from the start, bringing supplier capability and cost into product decisions and guiding designs toward volume manufacturability at the right price.
  • Travel to suppliers and partner sites, including international sites, up to 40%.
