Head of Robotics

GenesisSan Carlos, CA

About The Position

We are seeking a Head of Robotics to lead the technical integration of AI, robotics software, embedded systems, hardware, and testing to build reliable, deployable physical AI systems. This role involves partnering closely with research, platform, hardware, and operations teams to translate frontier AI capabilities into robots that perform robustly in the real world. The Head of Robotics will drive architecture and engineering decisions across the robotics stack, balancing long-term technical vision with rapid execution and deployment. Additionally, this role focuses on building and scaling a high-performance robotics organization, attracting, mentoring, and inspiring exceptional engineers across software, AI, embedded systems, and robotics. Establishing engineering processes that enable fast iteration while maintaining rigorous standards for software quality, system reliability, testing, and safety is crucial. The position requires hands-on work with technical leaders across the company to identify integration bottlenecks and drive cross-functional execution. Regular travel to collaborate with teams in Europe, China, and the United States is expected to ensure tight alignment across a globally distributed engineering organization. This role will help define the future of general-purpose robotics by bringing together advances in foundation models, embodied AI, hardware, and real-world deployment.

Requirements

  • Passion for building complex robotic systems and a demonstrated track record of shipping real-world products that integrate software, AI, hardware, and embedded systems.
  • Deep software engineering instincts and strong systems thinking, with significant experience architecting and delivering large-scale embedded, robotics, or other complex real-time systems.
  • Broad technical fluency across AI, robotics, hardware, embedded software, infrastructure, and testing.
  • Strong understanding of the challenges involved in deploying reliable real-time systems outside of controlled environments.
  • Experience leading highly technical engineering teams while remaining deeply engaged in architecture, execution, and technical decision-making.
  • A builder's mindset with exceptional ownership, urgency, and willingness to dive into technical details when needed.
  • Demonstrated ability to attract, mentor, and retain exceptional engineering talent while raising the technical bar across an organization.
  • Strong conviction that AI will fundamentally reshape robotics, and a deep interest in bringing foundation models into real-world physical systems.
  • Willingness to travel internationally and work closely with distributed teams to solve challenging systems integration problems where being close to the robot matters.

Nice To Haves
