About The Position

State Street Investment Management is seeking a senior engineering and transformation leader to head the Investment Solutions Group (Multi-Asset) technology organization. This hands-on, player-coach role sets technology direction and owns enterprise execution, solution architecture, modernization, and adoption across the investment lifecycle. The leader will simplify and scale proprietary and third-party platforms supporting portfolio construction, order management, fiduciary oversight, and client outcomes, with accountability for resilient operations and measurable business results. The role modernizes investment platforms by reducing fragmented data and workflow complexity, strengthening trusted and timely investment data, and supporting governance, reporting, and scalable services for fiduciary clients. It builds and delivers proprietary engineering capabilities for multi-asset, OCIO, and charitable asset-management portfolio needs, including agent-enabled workflows in proprietary portfolio-construction applications to automate setup, maintenance, monitoring, optimization, implementation, and controls. The mandate is to increase portfolio-manager capacity, accelerate readiness for complex investment solutions, simplify the application footprint, and reduce manual controls and end-user-developed tools while owning architecture, release quality, and production performance. The position leads a global organization spanning engineering, federated architecture, analysis, testing, production support, and vendor management. It partners with investment business leaders, capability managers, vendors, and architecture teams to execute a multi-year technology blueprint, deliver measurable outcomes, manage delivery and risk, and build a culture of accountability and technical excellence.

Requirements

  • At least 15 years of experience in asset-management technology, front-office engineering, portfolio-management and trading platforms, investment data, AI-enabled engineering, or large-scale technology transformation.
  • Deep knowledge of institutional portfolio-management workflows across asset allocation, portfolio construction, and implementation, with experience supporting multi-asset investment teams and fiduciary clients.
  • Proven record leading complex global engineering organizations and delivering multi-year platform modernization with measurable business outcomes, operational resilience, and portfolio-management adoption.
  • Strong solution-architecture capability, including design thinking, design-for-failure, API-first design, event-driven platforms, shared services, cloud-native engineering, and resilient data platforms.
  • Experience rebuilding or consolidating a portfolio-construction or rebalancing platform in production and successfully retiring the legacy system.
  • Ability to demonstrate a specific case in which multiple stakeholder variants were reduced to a smaller configurable design.
  • Hands-on experience with specification-first delivery, translating requirements into specifications and tests with AI-assisted engineering.
  • Practical experience using AI to improve investment workflows, engineering productivity, software quality, testing, documentation, and delivery effectiveness.
  • Experience governing proprietary and vendor platforms, outsourced service models, and complex commercial relationships.
  • Demonstrated ability to simplify complexity, rationalize fragmented platforms, align business and technology teams, and communicate clearly with senior executives and technical teams.
  • Strong command of operational resilience, cybersecurity, data protection, engineering controls, and regulatory expectations in a global financial institution.
  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, or a related field.

Nice To Haves

  • Advanced degree or relevant professional qualification.
  • Experience across public and private markets, multi-asset solutions, and global regulated environments.

Responsibilities

  • Execute the Investment Solutions Group multi-year technology blueprint with business capability managers, vendor partners, and architecture teams; sequence reengineering efforts and resolve cross-functional dependencies.
  • Serve as the accountable technology executive for platform delivery, resilience, scalability, security, and adoption.
  • Translate evolving investment products, client needs, and regulatory requirements into technology capabilities and delivery plans.
  • Decompose portfolio-management workflows, design modular services, and implement engineering solutions end to end.
  • Own engineering solutions across the portfolio-management, alternatives, and fund-of-funds investment lifecycle, including integration of research tools into portfolio construction, rebalancing optimization, implementation, and order generation.
  • Own order-management capabilities from portfolio intent through execution handoff, including order creation, staging, enrichment, allocation, routing, amendment, cancellation, and status tracking across asset classes.
  • Set target architecture and product roadmaps for proprietary and vendor order-management systems; consolidate duplicate workflows and define configurable capabilities for multi-asset, model-driven, and client-specific mandates.
  • Ensure order workflows enforce investment guidelines, cash and position checks, restricted-list controls, approvals, exception management, and auditability before orders reach trading.
  • Oversee integration among portfolio-construction, compliance, order-management, execution, position, cash, and post-trade platforms, with clear ownership of data quality, reconciliation, monitoring, and production support.
  • Lead architecture and engineering standards for modular services, APIs, data integration, and cloud-based solutions.
  • Embed disciplined requirements, testing, release management, and production controls to improve delivery quality and reduce operational risk.
  • Embed agent-enabled workflows into proprietary portfolio-construction tools to automate setup, model maintenance, monitoring, and rebalancing, shifting portfolio managers toward exception-based oversight.
  • Simplify legacy technology, reduce duplicate capabilities across proprietary toolsets, and manage migration risk through transition plans and controls.
  • Own the ISG technology-initiative portfolio, including scope, milestones, business benefits, risks, and resource decisions.
  • Track delivery against blueprint outcomes, including higher portfolio-manager productivity, faster readiness for complex products, a simpler application footprint, and fewer manual controls and end-user-developed tools.
  • Manage strategic vendors and affiliated service providers, including service expectations, integration quality, commercial performance, and workflow improvement.
  • Represent engineering in architecture, investment, risk, and governance forums, providing decisions and escalation as needed.
  • Lead a global organization spanning engineering, federated architecture, analysis, testing, production support, and vendor management.
  • Build a culture of accountability, technical excellence, constructive challenge, and close partnership with the investment business.
  • Develop engineering leaders, strengthen succession plans, and align workforce capacity and skills to the future-state roadmap.
  • Establish clear decision rights across business capability ownership, technology delivery, enterprise teams, and external partners.
