About The Position

Amperity is seeking a Head of Legal to lead the legal department and act as a key advisor to the executive team and business leaders. This is a hands-on leadership role where you will define the company's legal strategy and operational framework, while remaining closely involved in understanding risks, friction points, and opportunities. You will provide counsel on critical business issues, including complex enterprise transactions, product development, privacy, AI, employment law, corporate matters, partnerships, and strategic decisions. A significant part of this role involves establishing a modern, fast-paced, and commercially aligned legal operating model that embraces an AI-first strategy. This means integrating AI directly into daily legal operations for tasks such as research, contract review, identifying insights and risks, capturing institutional knowledge, and automating routine tasks, rather than treating AI as a supplementary tool. Success will be measured by Amperity's ability to make better decisions, accelerate progress with appropriate risk management, and scale effectively without the legal function becoming a bottleneck.

Requirements

Possess a JD and be an active member in good standing of at least one U.S. state bar.
Have experience leading legal functions within an enterprise technology, SaaS, cloud, data, or AI business, including experience with complex commercial transactions.
Ability to advise senior leaders across a wide range of matters, provide practical recommendations, and identify when specialist expertise is required.
Proven experience in building or improving legal processes to support business scaling.
Demonstrated use of AI in personal work and the ability to identify its benefits for legal workflows, along with the necessary controls.
Excellent communication skills, ability to work effectively across functions, and a combination of candid advice with ownership of business outcomes.

Responsibilities

Make contracting faster and more predictable by setting clear review standards, templates, fallback positions, approval rights, and escalation paths, and collaborating with Sales, Finance, Security, Product, and Services to resolve internal delays.
Build an AI-first legal workflow, utilizing AI for research, initial review, drafting, and knowledge retrieval while ensuring confidentiality, accuracy, and legal judgment.
Help teams make informed decisions by clearly explaining material risks and tradeoffs, even when information is incomplete.
Transform legal work into business insights by identifying patterns in customer negotiations, contractual commitments, disputes, and regulatory changes that can inform product and company decisions.
Scale the legal function deliberately by determining which tasks should be handled internally, outsourced to outside counsel, automated, or made available through self-service resources.
