Head of Growth Marketing

Ocean SecurityBoston, MA
Hybrid

About The Position

Ocean is building the future of email security, protecting against sophisticated, AI-driven attacks. As the first agentic email security platform, Ocean's agents investigate suspicious emails with the understanding of a human analyst. Founded in 2024, Ocean is backed by $28M in funding and protects hundreds of thousands of mailboxes, analyzing over a billion emails monthly for prominent companies. We are seeking a Growth Marketing Lead to build our growth engine from the ground up. This role involves owning the entire growth funnel, from initial discovery to sales handoff, with significant freedom to experiment and drive results. You will work directly with founders and collaborate closely with product, sales, and marketing teams, requiring some early mornings due to our distributed team structure. We value creativity, quality, and a data-driven approach to identifying and resolving funnel constraints.

Requirements

  • Significant growth, demand generation, or digital marketing experience in a B2B technology or cybersecurity startup.
  • Cybersecurity experience strongly preferred.
  • Understanding of technical buyers, complex sales cycles, and the difference between activity and pipeline generation.
  • Proven track record of owning a funnel and accountability for moving prospects from awareness through conversion to pipeline.
  • Thinking in terms of traffic, conversion, velocity, pipeline, and revenue.
  • Experience working closely with sales teams (account executives and BDRs).
  • Ability to build target account and persona logic for campaigns, brief sales teams, and ensure follow-through.
  • Strong website ownership experience, understanding the website as a growth engine (messaging, UX, conversion, content, analytics, experimentation, optimization).
  • Deep expertise in paid acquisition and digital demand generation (channel strategy, budget management, campaign building, testing, optimization).
  • Strong SEO and AEO knowledge, understanding evolving search and AI-driven discovery.
  • Exceptional analytical instincts and an experimentation mindset.
  • Hands-on execution skills; ability to write briefs, build campaigns, work in tools, analyze results, and iterate independently.
  • Strong technical curiosity and comfort working with product, engineering, security, and technical marketing teams.
  • Exceptional digital instincts and understanding of compelling digital experiences.
  • AI super-user, constantly experimenting with new AI tools for research, analysis, creation, automation, personalization, and speed.
  • Startup experience and a builder mentality; comfortable owning broad surface area, making decisions without a playbook, and building new systems.

Nice To Haves

  • Part marketer, part operator, part analyst, and part growth engineer/hacker.
  • Excited about both creative and quantitative aspects of marketing.
  • Ability to analyze a campaign from story and audience to channel, landing page, conversion path, and measurement.
  • Belief that 'brand' and 'performance' are interconnected.
  • Intense curiosity about the customer, product, market, technology, and data.
  • Strong opinions, but empirical approach; willing to abandon ideas based on data.
  • Focus on progress over activity.
  • Enjoyment of building and tackling new challenges.
  • Comfort with ambiguity, lack of a playbook, and building systems from scratch.

Responsibilities

  • Own the growth engine and Ocean's digital and growth funnel from first touch through conversion and pipeline.
  • Identify areas of success, challenges, and opportunities within the funnel.
  • Build systems, programs, experiments, and processes to continuously improve performance.
  • Own Ocean's website as a key growth asset, partnering with design, product, and engineering to enhance messaging, user experience, conversion, content, and performance.
  • Drive demand through digital channels by building and managing paid and organic acquisition programs.
  • Develop hypotheses, launch campaigns, measure results, and optimize toward pipeline generation.
  • Own SEO and AEO strategies to increase Ocean's visibility in search and AI-driven discovery.
  • Build a content distribution engine, ensuring content is effectively distributed and discovered.
  • Own email and lifecycle marketing programs, including newsletters, nurture campaigns, and product communications.
  • Develop segmentation, journeys, testing, and personalization to drive engagement and pipeline.
  • Own conversion optimization, analyzing the journey from traffic to opportunity and improving landing pages and forms.

  • Build target account and persona logic for campaigns and ensure sales teams have the necessary context.
  • Build a rigorous growth measurement framework across traffic, engagement, conversion, pipeline, and revenue.
  • Create a culture of testing and experimentation, developing hypotheses, launching quickly, and iterating based on data.
  • Build the growth function by determining the right tools, systems, processes, agencies, and future team structure.
  • Own relationships with creative agencies and external partners, providing direction and ensuring accountability.
  • Act as a connector and driver across teams and partners to remove obstacles and ensure work progresses.
