Head of Content & Supply

NewsBreak•Mountain View, CA
•$180,000 - $240,000

About The Position

NewsBreak is building ReelBee, an open short-drama distribution platform where qualified creators and studios can self-publish, earn a transparent revenue share, and access US audience insights. This CEO-sponsored, company-level initiative needs a leader to own the supply side: what content is offered, on what terms, and how its performance is evaluated. The role works across the US and China, with hiring locations in Mountain View in the San Francisco Bay Area and Beijing. The Head of Content & Supply will set and manage content supply strategy across professional content (including Chinese studios, AI studios, overseas platform catalogs, and US creators) and user-generated content. The role is accountable for catalog scale, quality, and return; builds supplier and rights-holder relationships; leads content acquisition and launch; and uses performance data to guide selection and growth. The leader will also hire and manage content operations, supplier business development, and creator relations, with a creator fund and creator ecosystem planned for a later phase.

Requirements

  • At least 5 years of experience in short drama, web fiction, or digital video, including at least 2 years in content acquisition, distribution, or content strategy at an overseas short-drama platform or a leading Chinese platform.
  • Established China-side supply network, with existing studio, AI studio, or rights-holder relationships and the ability to start first deals within 30 days.
  • Demonstrated hit judgment, including titles personally selected or signed that performed, supported by performance data.
  • Data-driven decision-making skills, including comfort using completion, conversion, and per-title ROI, and having decisions tested and revised.
  • Strong negotiation and deal-structuring skills across buyout, minimum-guarantee, and revenue-share models.
  • Professional fluency in English and Mandarin, with the ability to read US audience data and feedback.

Nice To Haves

  • Creator fund, creator program, or MCN experience.
  • Familiarity with AI short-drama production and leading AI studios, including the ability to judge AI-drama quality and cost.
  • Connections to US film schools, independent production, or writer communities.
  • Experience operating TikTok or YouTube short-drama channels or revenue-share programs.
  • At least 2 years of team-management experience.
  • Deep familiarity with US mainstream audience tastes and cultural context.

Responsibilities

  • Own content supply strategy across PGC, including Chinese studios and AI studios, overseas platform catalogs, and US creators, as well as UGC; be accountable for catalog scale, quality, and return.
  • Define content selection criteria and tagging taxonomy, and work with the data team to build a title-selection system based on scoring, testing, feedback, and performance data such as CTR, completion, paid conversion, and per-title return.
  • Build and manage 50+ supplier and rights-holder relationships.
  • Lead acquisition negotiations, contracts, and launches across buyout, minimum-guarantee, and revenue-share models; secure premiere and exclusivity windows and avoid over-exposed catalog titles.
  • After the first wave of China-side supply is live, work with the US Creator Relations lead to design a creator fund, partnership models, and revenue-share rules for US-based creators.
  • Track US, China, and global charts and audience trends, and publish insights for internal teams and creators about what performs with the audience.
  • Partner with Growth on scaling titles that perform well in testing and conduct post-mortems on hits and misses.
  • Hire and lead content operations, supplier business development, and creator relations.

Benefits

  • May be eligible for a discretionary bonus and options, depending on the position.
