Head of Communications

Groupon•Chicago, IL
•$75,000 - $135,000•Hybrid

About The Position

Groupon is hiring an individual-contributor Head of Communications to shape and communicate its story as it transforms from a deals marketplace into an AI-native experience discovery platform. This is the company’s only communications seat. The role reports to the CFO and works directly with the CEO; it is not a senior leadership position and has no team or agency support. The role centers on translating company strategy into a clear, consistent story for investors, press, partners, prospective employees, and other audiences. It owns the company narrative across channels, executive communications for the CEO and CFO, external communications, and communications workflows using AI agents. Internal communications and employer branding belong to the People team; disclosure and regulatory filings belong to Finance and Legal, with the Head of Communications responsible for recognizing when Legal review is needed. Success includes establishing the company story, publishing weekly communications in the CEO’s and CFO’s voices, producing channel-specific versions of strategy content, supporting launches and earnings narratives without disclosure errors, and developing AI workflows and communications agents for commercial leaders and sellers.

  • Show range across social posts and long-form writing, preferably addressing the same idea in different formats.
  • Have built and be able to demonstrate AI tools or workflows that automate part of personal research or drafting; a list of tools used is not sufficient.
  • Demonstrate serious writing training, usually through a degree in English, journalism, history, political science, or a related field.
  • Show a record of taking on more responsibility than originally assigned.
  • Demonstrate sound judgment around what information is public and the ability to push back on senior colleagues when needed.
