Head of Business Operations

Axion•New York, NY
•$200,000 - $300,000

About The Position

Axion is hiring its first Business Operations leader as the company approaches Series C. This build-and-run role will establish and own the coordination engine for how the company sets goals, measures progress, and stays aligned, while supporting active planning cycles. The role reports to the CEO and works closely with the Head of Finance & Operations and the executive team. The position leads strategic and quarterly planning, establishes the company’s operating cadence, ensures teams have clear metrics and owners, and develops systems and dashboards to track progress. It identifies plans that are off track, explains why, and leads cross-functional projects to address gaps. The role also partners with the CEO and Head of Finance & Operations on board reporting and considers how Business Operations should evolve in the age of AI and agents. Candidates with RevOps experience may also oversee RevOps; otherwise, the initial scope is Business Operations. The role may expand into RevOps, Strategy, or other departments as Axion grows.

Requirements

  • 5 to 8+ years of experience in Business Operations, strategy and operations, or Chief of Staff roles, ideally at a high-growth B2B company.
  • Experience building a planning and review cadence from scratch.
  • Strong analytical skills, including experience with SQL, spreadsheets, and BI tools.
  • Clear writing skills and the ability to turn messy inputs into board-ready material.
  • A habit of evaluating whether AI can perform work before adding process or headcount.

Nice To Haves

  • RevOps or Sales Ops experience.
  • Experience at a company scaling through Series B or Series C.
  • Background in enterprise SaaS, industrial, or technical B2B.

Responsibilities

  • Lead annual strategic planning and translate the CEO’s strategy into quarterly goals for each department.
  • Coordinate company-wide annual and quarterly planning, including replanning when business conditions change.
  • Own the operating cadence, including monthly and quarterly business reviews, the annual review, and company town halls.
  • Ensure every team has clear metrics, initiatives, and owners, including functions without a revenue target.
  • Partner with Engineering and Product to define nonstandard metrics and build systems and dashboards to track them.
  • Identify what is off track and provide a clear explanation of why.
  • Find gaps in the plan and lead cross-functional special projects to address them.
  • Partner with the CEO and Head of Finance & Operations on board reporting.
  • Consider how Business Operations should work in the age of AI and agents.
  • Potentially oversee RevOps if the candidate has RevOps experience.
