About The Position

Tapestry, a group within Google originally born at X, Alphabet’s moonshot factory, is building tools to help the electricity ecosystem plan smarter, move faster, and operate more efficiently. Its global effort supports partners in the U.S., U.K., Chile, New Zealand, Australia, and Brazil as they work toward a cleaner, more resilient energy future. The Head of Brand & Communications will shape Tapestry’s voice, narrative, and reputation as it builds a technology category at the intersection of AI and the electric grid. Reporting directly to the CEO, this role leads brand and communications strategy for audiences that include utility and enterprise customers, policymakers, industry leaders, employees, Alphabet stakeholders, investors, and the public. The role partners with leaders across Product, Engineering, Commercial, and Policy to make complex technical ideas clear, credible, and compelling. It combines strategic executive advising and company positioning with hands-on writing and storytelling. The position will establish Tapestry’s category narrative; build its reputation and influence through modern communication channels and traditional media; advise the CEO and leadership team; strengthen internal communications; lead corporate and stakeholder communications; and help protect the company’s reputation on complex, high-stakes issues. Prior grid technology or deep energy expertise is not required.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated ability to quickly develop fluency in complex technical or unfamiliar domains and translate that understanding into effective communications strategy; prior grid technology or deep energy expertise is not required.

  • Deep understanding of how ideas move in the modern media ecosystem, with practical experience engaging audiences through social media, creators, podcasts, newsletters, communities, and executive platforms, not only traditional press.
  • Ability to serve as a strategic advisor to senior executives while remaining hands-on in messaging, content, and communications.
  • Exceptional writing and storytelling skills, including clarity, accuracy, credibility, and the ability to make complex technical details compelling.
  • Demonstrated success as a trusted advisor to a CEO or senior executive team, particularly in high-stakes positioning and complex communications challenges.
  • Ability to build influence and credibility resourcefully and creatively without immediately relying on large, expensive agency support.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience building or repositioning an emerging technology category.
  • Experience with public-sector stakeholders, policy, or regulatory communications.
