About The Position

The Head of Android / AOSP will lead development of an AI-focused phone platform, with a focus on Android OS, custom ROM development, system architecture, and hardware integration. The mission is to build proactive applications and devices that bring intelligence into daily conversations, coordination, and workflows with minimal prompting, making AI-native capabilities accessible through everyday applications and devices.

This role owns the overall Android platform architecture and AOSP-based ROM development, and defines how AI capabilities are integrated at the operating-system level. It includes designing system services and privileged APIs for AI agents to interact with the OS and applications, establishing system-level permissions and security architecture, and assessing Android platform limitations and potential modifications. The role also works with hardware vendors and ODMs on device integration, leads Android platform engineering, establishes technical standards, and evaluates technical feasibility and trade-offs for the first phone.

Requirements

• Strong experience with Android Open Source Project (AOSP).
• Deep understanding of Android Framework, System Services, and Android internals.
• Experience with Binder IPC, Android permissions, SELinux, and system processes.
• Strong Java/Kotlin and C++ knowledge.
• Experience building or modifying Android ROMs.
• Experience shipping Android platform-level features, not just Android applications.
• Strong system architecture and technical leadership experience.

Nice To Haves

• Experience from Google Android/Pixel, Samsung, Xiaomi, OPPO, or similar Android platform teams.
• Experience with custom ROM development.
• Experience with Android BSP, HAL, and device bring-up.
• Experience with background execution and power optimization.
• Experience integrating AI or ML capabilities at the OS level.

Responsibilities

• Own the overall Android platform architecture and AOSP-based ROM development.
