About The Position

The Head Baseball Coach is responsible for instructing athletes in the fundamental skills, strategy, and physical training necessary for individual and team success. The coach must also instill socially acceptable character development, self-discipline, self-confidence, and pride of accomplishment in student athletes. This role requires continuous learning and skill enhancement through clinics, observations, and consultations. The position involves extended hours, potential risk of injury, and navigating due process situations. The coach must adhere to all school and league policies and regulations, serve as a mentor to athletes, and ensure the proper care and use of equipment and facilities.

Requirements

  • Previous successful coaching experience in the assigned sport (baseball).
  • Knowledge of the technical aspects of baseball.
  • Willingness to examine new theories and procedures pertinent to the field.
  • Ability to serve as an appropriate role model for student athletes through instruction and actions.
  • Knowledge of all athletic policies approved by the school and diocese.
  • Knowledge of existing system, state, and league regulations.
  • Understanding of the proper administrative line of command.
  • Awareness of public, staff, and departmental meetings requiring attendance.

Responsibilities

  • Instruct athletes in the fundamental skills, strategy, and physical training for baseball.
  • Promote character development, self-discipline, self-confidence, and pride in student athletes.
  • Upgrade knowledge and skills through coaching clinics, observations, and consultations.
  • Supervise practices, games, locker rooms, and travel associated with the baseball program.
  • Ensure adherence to all athletic policies, system, state, and league regulations.
  • Interpret regulations for players, parents, and fans as needed.
  • Understand and follow the administrative line of command, referring requests and grievances through appropriate channels.
  • Attend public, staff, and departmental meetings as required.
  • Serve as a mentor to each athlete, promoting character traits such as trustworthiness, respect, responsibility, fairness, caring, and citizenship.
  • Monitor student athletes' grades and conduct.
  • Provide assistance, guidance, and safeguards for each participant during practices, games, and travel.
  • Communicate training rules and sport-specific regulations to athletes.
  • Direct student managers, assistants, and statisticians.
  • Monitor equipment rooms and coaches' offices, authorizing access and equipment issuance/requisition.
  • Permit athletes in authorized areas at designated times.
  • Inspect locker rooms before and after practices and games for cleanliness.
  • Ensure the cleanliness and maintenance of specific sports equipment.
  • Secure all doors, lights, windows, and locks before leaving the building if custodians are not on duty.
  • Instill respect for equipment and school property, its care, and proper use in players.
