About The Position

This course is intended to develop an awareness and understanding of the Canadian healthcare system. Topics may include: the historical foundations of Medicare, responsibilities of the provincial and federal governments with respect to allocation of resources; funding mechanism; models of healthcare delivery; evolving roles of healthcare professionals, interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary teams; occupational health and safety of healthcare professionals; the Personal Health protection Act in the role of electronic health records; legislations, including the Ontario HealthCare Consent act, the Ontario Public Hospitals Act, and the Ontario regulated Health Professionals Act.

Requirements

  • PhD in Public Health, Health Systems, or Health Policy.
  • Experience teaching large groups of Junior students.
  • Internal members of the CTF bargaining unit.

Responsibilities

  • Teach the course HE202: Canadian Healthcare System.
  • Develop an awareness and understanding of the Canadian healthcare system.
  • Cover topics including historical foundations of Medicare, government responsibilities, funding mechanisms, healthcare delivery models, evolving roles of healthcare professionals and teams, occupational health and safety, the Personal Health Protection Act and electronic health records, and relevant legislation such as the Ontario HealthCare Consent Act, the Ontario Public Hospitals Act, and the Ontario Regulated Health Professionals Act.
