About The Position

Drives truck with capacity of more than 3 tons to transport hazmat and other materials to and from specified destinations, by performing the following duties.

Requirements

  • Maintain a valid Class A Commercial Driver’s License with hazmat and tanker endorsements and commercial insurability at all times.
  • Meeting all medical/licensing standards as established by the Department of Transportation (DOT).
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
  • Ability to write simple correspondence.
  • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • No Computer skills needed.
  • Valid DOT physical is also required.

  • The employee is occasionally required to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.

Responsibilities

  • Drive to destination in accordance with all federal, state and local laws and regulations.
  • Maintains truck logs, according to state and federal regulations.
  • Shifting manual transmissions and operating foot pedals.
  • Maintains telephone or radio contact with supervisor to receive delivery instructions.
  • Loads and unloads truck.
  • Cleans compartment after unloading as necessary to avoid contamination.
  • Inspects truck equipment and supplies such as tires, lights, brakes, gas, oil, and water.
  • Performs routine maintenance on vehicle, including but not limited to, daily pre and post trip inspections.
  • Assist location with operational duties, as time allows, ensuring an efficient production schedule.
  • Ensure trucks promote a positive image of Heartland Co-op by keeping the interiors and exteriors clean as conditions allow.
  • Drive and deliver products during various types of weather, which may cause road surfaces to be wet and slippery and involve temperature extremes.
  • Flexibility to work various shifts, extra shifts and hours to insure seasonal business needs are met, this may include seven days a week during seasonal demand and may include out of state travel.
