About The Position

Hatchery Laborers are responsible for various tasks within the hatchery, including washing floats, transporting hatcher trays, sanitizing equipment, setting and transferring eggs, and loading chicks onto a conveyor. The role involves physically demanding tasks such as lifting, bending, and continuous standing and walking. Specific duties include removing hatcher trays, rinsing equipment with high-pressure hoses, using foaming systems for sanitation, placing eggs into incubators, and moving trays of eggs and chicks.

Requirements

  • Continuous standing, walking, bending, and reaching.
  • Dexterity may include pinch grip, back extension/flexion, and/or shoulder extension/flexion.
  • Must wear hearing protection in posted areas.
  • Must wear slip-resistant shoes in all areas.
  • Must wear steel-toe shoes during set and transfer.

  • Cotton gloves are optional.

Responsibilities

  • Wash floats (buggy) by removing hatcher trays, over-turning the float to remove debris, and rinsing with a high-pressure hose.
  • Sanitize the separator using a foaming system with sodium hypochlorite and then rinsing with a high-pressure hose.
  • Sanitize the hatcher by removing fans, sweeping debris, foaming with sodium hypochlorite, and rinsing with a high-pressure hose.
  • Set eggs by placing 10-pound egg trays into incubators from floor level to shoulder level.
  • Transfer eggs by pushing buggies to the vaccination table, placing individual trays on the table, and then placing them back onto the buggy.
  • Load chicks onto the belt by removing chick trays from a buggy and placing the tray onto the conveyor.
