Hardware Technician - Hands

1XSan Carlos, CA
$26 - $48Onsite

About The Position

1X is building humanoid robots for home use, aiming to automate chores and give people back their time. This involves solving complex challenges in robotics, AI, and manufacturing simultaneously, at scale, and in a safe form factor for home environments. The company has been developing these robots since 2014 and is now focused on shipping its flagship product, NEO. The Hands team specifically focuses on developing dexterous manipulation subsystems for these robots, involving rapid design, prototyping, testing, and iteration across mechanical, electrical, firmware, controls, and software disciplines. The Hardware Technician will play a crucial role in this process by building, debugging, and validating prototypes to accelerate the team's development cycles. This includes fabricating mechanical hardware, bringing up electronics, testing integrated assemblies, and supporting engineers in iterating on new designs. The goal is to bridge the gap between engineering concepts and real-world performance.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience supporting hardware development in robotics, automotive, consumer electronics, or related industries.
  • Experience using electrical test equipment including oscilloscopes, power supplies, multimeters, and data acquisition tools.
  • Proficiency with CAD software such as Onshape, SolidWorks, Fusion 360, or equivalent.
  • Strong hands-on experience with 3D printing, CNC machining, laser cutting, manual machining, and general fabrication tools.
  • Experience documenting assembly processes, test procedures, and development activities.
  • Strong hands-on fabrication and assembly skills across mechanical and electrical systems.
  • Excellent troubleshooting abilities with the confidence to diagnose issues across hardware and integrated systems.
  • Ability to move quickly while maintaining high standards for quality and attention to detail.
  • Strong collaboration skills and comfort working closely with engineers across multiple disciplines.
  • Ownership mindset with a willingness to take initiative and solve problems independently.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working with robotic systems, actuators, or mechatronic assemblies.
  • Experience performing PCB bring-up, firmware flashing, component rework, and hardware validation.
  • Experience designing and building custom test fixtures or validation rigs.
  • Familiarity with data acquisition systems, automated testing, and scripting tools.
  • Experience supporting rapid prototyping efforts in fast-paced product development environments.
