About The Position

Gather AI is hiring for its Hardware team, which designs, builds, and supports autonomous inventory drones and camera systems mounted on customers’ material handling equipment. The Hardware Deployment Project Manager owns the hardware side of customer deployment readiness, field hardware escalations and returns, and accurate deployment configurations and bills of materials across hardware programs. This is an ownership role in which the employee will collaboratively build processes with Hardware leadership and serve as a link between hardware development and field operations. The role reports to the Director of Hardware and works closely with engineers, technicians, Field Ops, Purchasing, and customer implementation teams. The position is based on site in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, or remotely in the United States. It requires approximately one week per month on site in Pittsburgh; travel to an active customer deployment takes priority. Eastern time zone availability is a plus.

Requirements

  • Have owned hardware readiness end to end for deployments, production launches, or NPI builds, covering schedules, kits, parts, and handoffs.
  • Have kept teams moving toward a date without direct authority.
  • Have owned records of hardware built and implemented, such as BOMs and revisions, configurations and change control, or RMA processes; ideally, have built one of these processes.
  • Be able to read assembly and part drawings and electrical schematics, and understand critical-to-quality callouts.
  • Be comfortable troubleshooting hardware hands-on.
  • Be able to manage a field escalation from initial report through resolution while keeping stakeholders informed.
  • Be detail-oriented, agile, and adaptable when plans change.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in warehouse, material handling, or forklift environments.
  • Robotics or autonomous-vehicle deployment experience.
  • Experience working with suppliers or contract manufacturers on ECOs or recurring defects.
  • Experience coordinating with suppliers or contract manufacturers.
  • Experience with Document Control, Good Documentation Practices, and Good Manufacturing Practices.
  • Eastern time zone.

Responsibilities

  • Own hardware readiness for each customer deployment, including schedules, kit lists, parts status, shipping, and site prerequisites.
  • Serve as the hardware liaison lead on site during installs and go-lives, then hand off to Field Ops.
  • Own tier-2 hardware escalations by triaging issues, routing them to the appropriate technician or engineer, and closing the loop.
  • Own the RMA process, including intake, disposition, coordination of failure analysis, and trend reporting to engineering and suppliers.
  • Maintain BOM accuracy and configuration management across programs, including revision control and serial/configuration traceability.
  • Build and document processes such as readiness checklists, RMA workflows, and configuration control.
  • Plan development builds and test assets with engineering and technicians, and translate field findings into engineering action.
  • Coordinate development builds, test assets, and technician schedules.
  • Provide Purchasing with a clear demand plan and flag long-lead and single-source risks early.
