Hardware Deployment Project Manager

Gather AI•Pittsburgh, PA

About The Position

Gather AI is hiring a Hardware Deployment Project Manager to coordinate hardware readiness and field support across customer deployments and Hardware programs. Gather AI develops a vision-powered warehouse intelligence platform using autonomous drones and camera systems mounted on material handling equipment. The Hardware team designs, builds, and supports these systems, while Field Ops handles day-to-day customer site support. The role owns deployment readiness, hardware escalations and returns, and documentation of deployment configurations and bills of materials. It serves as a connection between hardware development and field operations, ensuring hardware is ready on time, field issues and returns are handled effectively, and BOMs and fleet configurations remain accurate. The role reports to the Director of Hardware and works with engineers, technicians, Field Ops, Purchasing, and customer implementation teams. The work processes are to be developed collaboratively with Hardware leadership. The position is based onsite at the Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania headquarters or remotely in the United States. The role requires approximately one week per month onsite in Pittsburgh; during active customer deployments, travel to the deployment site takes priority. Eastern time zone availability is a plus.

Requirements

  • Experience owning hardware readiness for deployments, production launches, or NPI builds end to end, including schedules, kits, parts, and handoffs.
  • Ability to keep teams moving toward deadlines without direct authority.
  • Experience owning hardware records or processes such as BOMs and revisions, configurations and change control, or RMAs; experience building one of these is preferred in the posting.
  • Ability to read assembly and part drawings and electrical schematics, and understand critical-to-quality callouts.
  • Comfort troubleshooting hardware hands-on.
  • Ability to manage a field escalation from initial report through resolution while keeping stakeholders informed.
  • Detail-oriented, agile, and adaptable when plans change.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in warehouse, material handling, or forklift environments.
  • Robotics or autonomous-vehicle deployment experience.
  • Experience coordinating with suppliers or contract manufacturers, including ECOs or recurring defects.
  • Experience with Document Control, Good Documentation Practices, and Good Manufacturing Practices.
  • Eastern time zone availability.

Responsibilities

  • Own hardware readiness for customer deployments, including schedules, kit lists, parts status, shipping, and site prerequisites.
  • Attend installations and go-lives as the hardware liaison lead and hand off to Field Ops.
  • Own tier-2 hardware escalations by triaging issues, routing them to technicians or engineers, and following through to resolution.
  • Own the RMA process, including intake, disposition, failure-analysis coordination, and trend reporting to engineering and suppliers.
  • Maintain BOM accuracy and configuration management across programs, including revision control and serial/configuration traceability.
  • Build and document processes such as readiness checklists, RMA workflows, and configuration control.
  • Plan development builds and test assets with engineering and technicians.
  • Coordinate development builds, test assets, and technician schedules, and turn field findings into engineering action.
  • Provide Purchasing with a demand plan and flag long-lead and single-source risks early.
