Hardware Applications Engineer

Teguar Corporation•Charlotte, NC

About The Position

Teguar is seeking a Hardware Applications Engineer to perform hands-on testing and prepare documentation that validates computer hardware solutions for customer needs. The role bridges customers, Sales, and Engineering by validating hardware solutions, documenting results, and resolving issues in the lab and in the field. This work supports design-ins, reduces deployment risk, and improves product quality for industrial and medical applications. The engineer plans and performs pre-sales hardware and software validation, prepares and presents test reports, leads customer or NRTL witness testing, reviews technical requirements for feasibility and risk, and leads post-sales escalations through root-cause analysis and corrective actions. The role also creates and maintains medical verification and validation documentation where applicable, and uses validation and RMA trends to recommend design or process improvements.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Computer, or Systems Engineering, or a related field, with at least two years of industry experience; alternatively, at least five years of hands-on hardware applications, validation, or systems integration experience in lieu of education; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • At least three years of experience with Windows and Linux imaging, UEFI/BIOS configuration, driver integration, and peripheral bring-up, including USB, serial, Ethernet, Wi-Fi/Bluetooth, and storage.
  • Strong bench and laboratory skills, including use of a digital multimeter and oscilloscope, thermal testing, ESD-safe handling, fixture setup, and log capture (kernel, event, and IPMI/BMC where applicable).
  • Scripting experience for testing and triage using Python and/or PowerShell.
  • Experience writing clear test plans and reports for external customers.
  • Excellent customer-facing communication and issue ownership across Sales, Operations, and Engineering.

Nice To Haves

  • Exposure to medical or regulated environments, including familiarity with IEC 60601-x, ISO 13485, or IEC 62304.
  • Experience with imaging at scale using MDT, Clonezilla, or PXE; secure boot and TPM; or BIOS customization workflows.
  • Experience with Jira/Confluence, PLM/ERP, and Git; basic PCB/ECAD literacy for reading schematics.
  • EMI/EMC pre-compliance experience or thermal profiling and burn-in design experience.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and execute pre-sales hardware and software validation, including power-on, imaging, driver and firmware checks, and thermal and EMI pre-checks.
  • Produce test reports and present findings to customers to support design-ins and approvals, targeting a turnaround of five business days or less for standard requests.
  • Serve as technical lead for customer or NRTL witness tests; capture logs, reproduce issues, and align on pass/fail criteria and risks.
  • Review specifications and statements of work for feasibility, identify edge cases, and propose mitigations such as alternate components, BIOS/UEFI settings, or thermal profiles.
  • Lead escalations from production or the field, drive root-cause analysis with Engineering, Operations, and suppliers, and document corrective actions, aiming for more than 90% first-pass fixes.
  • Create and maintain verification and validation artifacts, change records, and traceability aligned, as applicable, with IEC 60601-1/-1-2, ISO 13485, and ISO 14971.
  • Trend validation failures and RMAs, and recommend design or process changes to reduce defects and resolution time.
