Hard Lines Merchandising Specialist
About The Position
The Hard Lines Merchandising Specialist sorts and processes hardline donations, separating sellable merchandise from outlet product. The role researches and sets prices according to Goodwill Houston guidelines and supports efficient, cost-effective stewardship of donations to maximize profitability in support of the organization’s mission. The Specialist performs assigned duties in accordance with Goodwill Houston policies, procedures, and guiding principles. The position also supports customer service, production, merchandising, donation handling, store safety, and housekeeping. The employee is expected to work quickly to meet production standards, maintain a friendly and professional attitude, adapt to a fast-paced team environment, and maintain dependable attendance and an appropriate appearance. Duties may change or include other assignments from management.
Requirements
- Ability to perform basic math functions, including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.
- Ability to communicate and interact well with a variety of personality types.
- Excellent customer service skills.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule.
- Reliable transportation.
- Ability to stand, twist, bend, squat, reach, kneel, push, and pull.
- Ability to lift up to 40 pounds and occasionally lift or move items up to 100 pounds.
- Ability to stand for extended periods.
Nice To Haves
- High school diploma or equivalent is preferred.
- Retail sales experience is preferred.
Responsibilities
- Research merchandise value using Goodwill Houston baseline pricing guides or the internet, and price items accordingly.
- Keep abreast of industry trends, merchandising, and competitive pricing.
- Provide excellent customer service, greet customers, and answer basic questions about store operations and merchandise.
- Work quickly to meet required production standards and ensure product is continually rotated.
- Assist in keeping production supplies available.
- Assist in merchandising produced goods on the sales floor according to guidelines.
- Assist with loading and unloading merchandise as needed.
- Receive and record donations as needed.
- Assist with sorting donations according to Goodwill Houston guidelines.
- Notify the manager of low or overstocked merchandise.
- Assist with the security and safety of team members and property.
- Assist with floor recovery as needed and perform necessary janitorial work.
- Report all work incidents and injuries immediately.
- Follow Goodwill Houston policies and procedures, loss prevention and safety regulations, guiding principles, and applicable local, state, and federal laws.
- Maintain a safe, neat, and clean work area; keep aisles and pathways to fire exits clear.
- Complete assigned duties and other duties as assigned by management.
- Maintain punctuality, dependable attendance, professionalism, and an appropriate appearance.
