The primary responsibilities of resident/fellow trainees are to provide competent, compassionate patient care; work effectively as a member of the health care team; and meet the educational goals of his/her specific program. This includes complying with departmental and institutional policies, promptly responding to pages and messages, arriving punctually to educational assignments, participating in program evaluations, incorporating feedback, educating and supervising less senior residents and medical students, and participating in scholarly activities such as quality improvement, presentations, and research. Trainees are also responsible for patient safety by reporting events and near misses, participating in RCA processes if requested, reporting any lack of adequate supervision, and immediately reporting unsafe conditions. Well-being is ensured through appropriate self-care and reporting concerns about other trainees or faculty. Patient care is provided in a kind and caring manner, identifying oneself as a resident/fellow, and delivering care with cultural humility. Responsibilities at the training site include actively contributing to a healthy environment, partnering with nursing and other care team members, and complying with site and department transitions of care processes. Trainees may report confidentially to the DIO.
