About The Position

The State of Connecticut, Connecticut Technical Education and Career System (CTECS) is recruiting a Hairdressing Instructor to join our team at Bullard-Havens Technical High School in Bridgeport, CT. This role involves educating students in both theoretical and hands-on aspects of cosmetology, preparing them for skilled workforce needs. The position follows a ten-month academic calendar and requires the instructor to be capable of teaching all facets of the cosmetology curriculum, including practical salon services.

Requirements

  • 090 certification State of CT education certification
  • Minimum of eight (8) years of relevant, varied, hands-on cosmetology experience encompassing all areas specified in the program description.
  • Experience in using point of sale software.
  • Basic understanding of office suite software.
  • Hairdressing/cosmetologist license.
  • Current OSHA 10- Construction Industry Certification.
  • Possess a valid certificate issued by the Connecticut State Board of Education in accordance with the Certification Regulations Concerning State Educator Certificates, Permits and Authorizations, with a secondary school endorsement.

Nice To Haves

  • Completed VTE 113, VTE 116, and a Special Education course.
  • Experience in teaching or substitute teaching.
  • Ability to demonstrate methods of delivering lessons, assessing student knowledge, and the use of educational technology.
  • Involvement in student/community activities.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and deliver theoretical cosmetology information and assess student competency using various methods, including educational technology.
  • Utilize basic computer skills to access online curriculum/resources and present lessons.
  • Possess the technical skill and physical ability to complete various cosmetology tasks for hands-on training.
  • Instruct students individually and in groups using lectures, discussions, and demonstrations.
  • Establish and enforce rules for behavior and procedures for maintaining order among students.
  • Observe and evaluate students' performance, behavior, social development, and physical health.
  • Prepare objectives and outlines for courses of study following district curriculum guidelines and Department of Public Health guidelines for salon settings.
  • Assist students in providing beauty services such as cutting, coloring, and styling hair; massaging and treating the scalp; shampooing hair; applying makeup; removing hair; and providing nail and skincare services.
  • Participate in building and district-level professional development and collaboration with various committees and departments.
