Intern - Habitat Management (Summer)
About The Position
This internship provides technical assistance to habitat program staff in Region 1 to aid in developing, improving, and maintaining habitat for wildlife species and to increase hunter and recreation opportunities on state-owned and managed property. The intern will learn key habitat management techniques through seminars and on-the-ground activities. Additional responsibilities may be assigned based on the intern's abilities. The duty area covers the western half of the state, requiring extensive travel, potentially including overnight stays. A valid driver's license is required. The position involves strenuous physical labor and working outdoors in extreme and variable weather conditions. Upon employment, the intern must obtain a SD Commercial Applicator's license in categories G, 1A, 7, and 12. Training in the safe use of ATV/UTVs will be provided.
Requirements
- Must be a current part-time or full-time student (minimum of 6 credit hours) in the upcoming semester or in the immediately preceding semester.
- Must be enrolled as a part-time/full-time student at a college, university, or technical institute at the time of application.
- Should have completed one year (nine months) of their chosen program by the start of the internship.
- A valid driver's license is required.
- Must be able to perform strenuous physical labor.
- Must be willing to work outdoors in extreme and variable weather conditions.

Responsibilities

Benefits
- Minimum Salary: $19.09/hr
