About The Position

The Group Camp Program Director develops and leads transformative group camping experiences that foster teamwork, leadership, and a connection to nature. This role designs dynamic programs for schools, corporate retreats, faith-based organizations, and community groups, ensuring engaging, mission-driven activities that promote personal growth and outdoor education. With a focus on exceptional hospitality, the Director oversees program scheduling, staff leadership, risk management, and guest relations to deliver safe, inclusive, and memorable experiences. By combining strategic vision, creativity, and operational excellence, this role strengthens community partnerships and ensures Camp Duncan remains a premier destination for impactful group camping.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree
  • Previous YMCA Day or Overnight Camp experience.
  • Strong organizational and administrative skills with attention to detail.
  • Experience or ability to learn registration systems, financial transactions, and customer service.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced camp environment.
  • Proficiency or ability to learn Microsoft Office, camp management software, and financial tracking systems.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to engage with families, staff, and vendors effectively.
  • Willing to work a flexible schedule to include nights and weekends.
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills.
  • Strong customer service orientation with the ability to relate well with a diverse set of camp customers.
  • Ability to meet physical requirements of the job description.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior training and experience in high ropes courses and adventure/challenge programs is preferred but not required.
  • Prior experience as a lifeguard preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Develops, implements, and evaluates a diverse range of group camp programs, creating dynamic and engaging experiences for a wide variety of participants.
  • Designs activities that foster leadership, teamwork, and personal growth, with programming offered on weekdays, weeknights, and weekends.
  • Oversees both day groups and groups staying overnight, ensuring a seamless, well-coordinated, and enriching experience for all participants.
  • Identifies new opportunities for program expansion based on market trends, participant needs, and community demand to grow Camp Duncan’s impact and reach.
  • Expands group programs and partnerships at the local, state, and national levels.
  • Develops business strategies to grow revenue and maximize facility usage, ensuring Camp Duncan remains a premier destination for group experiences.
  • Builds long-term relationships with key stakeholders to enhance program offerings and strengthen community ties.
  • Develops and executes strategic marketing and sales initiatives to promote Camp Duncan’s programs.
  • Builds and maintains relationships with key organizations, businesses, and community groups to increase participation.
  • Oversees the creation and distribution of promotional materials, leads direct outreach efforts, and represents Camp Duncan at community events, networking functions, and industry conferences.
  • Ensures radical hospitality and customer service is a top priority.
  • Serves as the primary point of contact for all groups, ensuring clear communication and a seamless experience before, during, and after their stay.
  • Coordinates detailed schedules, food service, and facility maintenance to enhance guest satisfaction and retention.
  • Recruits, hires, and supervises part-time, stipend, and hourly employees who assist in running program events and other essential camp operations.
  • Provides ongoing training and professional development to staff.
  • Ensures compliance with safety policies, risk management protocols, and operational procedures to prioritize participant and staff well-being.
  • Maintains accurate records, oversees facility and equipment maintenance, and enforces safety standards for all activities.
  • Works with the Executive Director to manage the program budget, ensuring financial sustainability and strategic investment in program growth.
  • Collaborates with the Administrative Manager and business office to oversee contracts, payment processing, and financial reporting for group bookings.
  • Supports the YMCA’s commitment to child abuse prevention by reporting any items that may provide a health or safety hazard, following all policies and procedures related to keeping children safe, reporting any suspicious behavior and violation of policy and procedures, and completing all child abuse prevention training.
