About The Position

The Group Pregnancy Program is a new, innovative model of care where clients receive prenatal care in a group setting at the Alongside Midwifery Unit. Following delivery, clients will receive home visits within the first week and then transition to a postpartum group care model. Midwives will rotate through providing antenatal, delivery, and postpartum care. This program supports midwives working in shifts (8 or 12 hours) and involves providing the full spectrum of midwifery care, from conception through the 6-week postpartum period. The role emphasizes people and family-centered care, aligning with the philosophy of midwifery and Oak Valley Health's core values. Midwives function as autonomous practitioners providing primary maternity care, including labor and birth care, and collaborate within a multidisciplinary health care team. They also facilitate continuity of care by communicating with other providers or services when necessary.

Requirements

Current Certificate of Registration with the College of Midwives.
Minimum 2-3 years of recent experience as a midwife.
Demonstrated experience providing expert clinical care that supports the physical, psychological, social, and spiritual well-being of people and families in the prenatal, intrapartum, and postpartum periods.
Demonstrated ability to build successful relationships with patients, families, and colleagues as partners in decision-making and care.
Possess leadership attributes necessary to work closely with nursing staff, the multidisciplinary team, and other stakeholders to achieve optimal quality patient outcomes.
Demonstrated ability to act as an advocate for patients and their families.
Excellent physical assessment skills.
Proficient computer and writing skills.
Familiarity with professional and hospital standards, guidelines, and procedures.
Proof of COVID-19 vaccination (full vaccination required) or provide supporting medical exemption documentation or an affidavit.

Responsibilities

Provide safe, flexible maternity care to childbearing people and their families from conception through the 6-week postpartum period.
Provide antenatal, delivery, and postpartum care within a group care model.
Work in shifts, including 8-hour or 12-hour days, nights, and weekends.
Provide the full spectrum of midwifery care, even though midwives are not on call.
Practice in accordance with the philosophy of the profession of midwifery and the core values of Oak Valley Health.
Function as an autonomous practitioner providing primary maternity care, including labor and birth care.
Work collaboratively with nursing staff, the multidisciplinary team, and other stakeholders.
Act as an advocate for patients and their families.
Facilitate continuity of access to care beyond the childbearing year when necessary.
