About The Position

As a member of the outpatient pharmacy team, you will assist the licensed Pharmacy Technicians and Pharmacists in the technical aspects of medication dispensing in a fast-paced outpatient pharmacy. Your duties will include greeting customers, data entry, submission and coordination of third party claims, responding to patient inquiries and phone calls, maintaining pharmacy equipment as per required cleaning schedules, restocking and pricing of front store items, monitoring of expiry dates, recordkeeping, helping with inventory and supplies management, including special orders, creating orders, receiving orders and putting into stock, arrangement of deliveries, and cashier duties. Under the supervision of a pharmacy technician or pharmacist, the pharmacy assistant is responsible for filling prescriptions efficiently and preparing blister pack medications. After successfully completing delegation from a licensed pharmacist, the pharmacy assistant may prepare compounds following a master formulation. Pharmacy assistants may participate in quality assurance and quality improvement activities. The pharmacy assistant is expected to complete registration requirements to become a licensed Pharmacy Technician with the Ontario College of Pharmacists within one year of employment.

Requirements

  • Minimum 2 years retail pharmacy experience in Ontario
  • Completion of a recognized college level Pharmacy Technician program
  • Proficient computer skills
  • Well-developed organizational and prioritization skills
  • Ability to work well in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to work on projects as assigned
  • Demonstrated effective communication and interpersonal skills with a customer service focus
  • Sound independent work habits coupled with proven ability to work collaboratively as part of a team
  • Demonstrated good attendance and performance records with the ability to maintain these same standards
  • Demonstrated commitment to a healthy and safe workplace for self and others (staff, patients, families, etc.) by taking all reasonable precautions and working in compliance with hospital related policies, health and safety legislation and best practices and completing relevant mandatory education as required
  • Expected to complete registration requirements to become a licensed Pharmacy Technician with the Ontario College of Pharmacists within one year of employment
