About The Position

The Compliance Division of the Comptroller's Office is seeking a Unit Manager to join the Nexus Unit of Individual Tax Audit. The Unit Manager is responsible for providing management, guidance and support to supervisors and auditors assigned to the Individual Nexus Unit of the Compliance Programs Section. The Unit Manager also performs research and analysis of the State's more complex revenue laws and regulations and the Internal Revenue Code and regulations, to ensure the proper compliance with Maryland's revenue laws.

Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.
  • Six years of professional work experience in auditing, accounting, tax law, general management, or customer service.
  • Two years of this professional work experience must have involved supervising professional revenue administrators, accountants, or auditors, or providing legal advice requiring the interpretation of tax laws in the capacity of a tax attorney, or having been in a responsible administrative or management capacity.
  • Candidates may substitute the possession of an associates degree for two years of the required experience in auditing, accounting, tax law, general management, or customer service.
  • Candidates may substitute the possession of a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university for four years of auditing, accounting, general management, and customer service experience.
  • Candidates may substitute 30 college credits from an accredited college or university for one year of the required experience up to three years of experience in auditing, accounting, tax law, general management, or customer service.
  • Candidates may substitute graduate education in an academic field related to the required experience from an accredited college or university for the required experience.
  • Candidates may substitute the possession of a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) License for the required experience.
  • Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience at a rank of Corporal/Petty Officer or higher as a non-commissioned officer in accounting and budget classification or accounting and budget specialty codes in the tax examining field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without current or future employer sponsorship.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.

Responsibilities

  • Providing management, guidance and support to supervisors and auditors assigned to the Individual Nexus Unit of the Compliance Programs Section.
  • Performing research and analysis of the State's more complex revenue laws and regulations and the Internal Revenue Code and regulations, to ensure the proper compliance with Maryland's revenue laws.
