About The Position

The YMCA of Metropolitan Washington is hiring Group Leaders for its School Age Child Care program at the YMCA at Alexandria. This role supports elementary- and middle-school-aged children in a collaborative afterschool environment and offers the opportunity to positively impact their lives. Group Leaders supervise and engage children in recreational, academic, and enrichment activities, create a safe and stimulating setting, and support children’s social-emotional and academic growth. The schedule is part-time during the school year, Monday through Friday, with before-care hours of 6:30 a.m.–8:00 a.m. and/or after-care hours of 2:30 p.m.–6:30 p.m. Compensation is $15–$18 per hour.

Requirements

Experience working with elementary- to middle-school-aged children in a school or childcare setting.
High school diploma or GED.
Strong interpersonal and behavior management skills.
CPR/First Aid certification or willingness to obtain it.

Relevant coursework or degree preferred.
Experience fostering an environment for children of all abilities is valued.

Responsibilities

Supervise and engage school-age children in recreational, academic, and enrichment activities.

Plan and implement daily lessons and activities that support social-emotional and academic growth.
Provide guidance and positive behavior support.
Maintain communication with families and program staff.
Ensure the safety and well-being of all children at all times.
