Part Time After School Group Games & Play Specialist (Jamaica, Queens)
About The Position
Splat Lab is seeking a Group Games & Play Specialist for a STEAM-based, school-based afterschool program in Jamaica, Queens. The specialist will design and facilitate engaging, structured, hour-long play sessions for groups of children aged 5–10 during weekly program blocks. They will lead group games and activities, supervise and support students during free play, and collaborate with the on-site coordinator, Splat Educators, and school staff to meet program goals and help create a safe, welcoming environment where students have fun and treat one another kindly. The position is scheduled for 2–4 days per week, Monday through Thursday, from 3:30 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. The school is not close to a subway and is primarily accessible by bus or car. Candidates should be able to commit through the end of the school year in May 2027. Compensation is a day rate of $100–$110, commensurate with experience.
Requirements
- At least one year of experience supervising children and facilitating groups at a high skill level.
- Experience facilitating and teaching physical education, theatre games, dance or music, art therapy, karate or taekwondo, or other children’s games modalities.
- Experience with positive youth development and social-emotional learning.
- Comfort facilitating in alternative classroom spaces, such as a gym, music room, or outdoor playground.
- Ability to collaborate professionally and thoughtfully with Splat staff and partner school staff.
- Ability to commit through May 2027.
Responsibilities
- Design age-appropriate play sessions for groups of elementary-aged students.
- Lead and facilitate play sessions and open-play sessions according to the weekly schedule.
- Supervise and support students during free play.
- Work closely with the on-site coordinator, Splat Educators, and school staff to create a fun environment for all.
- Help ensure students are safe and treat one another kindly.
