About The Position

Mindrift is recruiting adults in the Santa Clara Valley (South Bay), California, for an in-person research study examining communication and interaction in everyday group conversations. Participants join a small group of 2–4 people for a guided conversation led by a trained moderator. Topics are everyday and non-sensitive, such as planning a birthday celebration or making ordinary decisions. Sessions last about 90 minutes and are recorded on video and audio for research purposes. Participation is voluntary and covered by a signed consent form explaining the study and how recordings are used and stored. Participants may ask questions at any time or withdraw. Each participant takes part once and must not have participated in this study before. Eligible applicants can register on Mindrift, complete a short screening questionnaire, and, if selected, book a session. Sessions are held in person on a weekday between November 2026 and March 2027. Compensation is $110 after completing the session; travel costs are not covered.

Requirements

Be 18–64 years of age.
Live in or be able to travel to Santa Clara Valley (South Bay), California.
Be comfortable holding a conversation in English; non-native speakers and all accents are welcome.
Be comfortable being recorded on video and audio during the session.
Be able to attend one in-person session on a weekday between November 2026 and March 2027.
Have not taken part in this study before; each person participates once.
No previous experience is required.

Responsibilities

Check in on site with the study coordinator.
Take part in a guided conversation with a group of 2–4 people, led by a trained moderator.
Discuss everyday, non-sensitive topics during an approximately 90-minute session.
Allow the session to be recorded on video and audio for research purposes.
