About The Position

At Moon Valley Nurseries, the Groundsman supports nursery operations and customer service through equipment maintenance, yard organization, merchandise handling, and customer assistance. The role involves maintaining a clean, orderly, and attractive nursery yard; performing routine maintenance and repairs on nursery equipment; and helping load and unload plants, trees, and other products into vehicles. The employee must follow safety protocols and be available to work any day of the week. The position is active, outdoors, and may involve extended work in rain, heat, sun, and wind. The posting also describes manual work to maintain and stock the nursery and fulfill customer orders, including handling soil and other materials and preparing soil for planting.

Requirements

Ability to perform manual labor.
Ability to follow specific instructions and safety protocols.
Ability to frequently reach, pull, lift, and/or move items weighing up to and over 75 pounds (the Spanish-language section states up to and over 50 pounds).
Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, stoop, crouch, crawl, and climb throughout the day.
Ability to work outdoors for extended periods in potentially extreme conditions, including rain, heat, sun, and wind.
Subject to motor vehicle record and criminal background checks in accordance with applicable laws.

Nice To Haves

Previous experience operating power tools, hand tools, and other equipment.
High school diploma or equivalent.

Responsibilities

Organize and maintain the nursery yard so it is clean, orderly, and attractive, including managing plant-material waste and rearranging plants, trees, and merchandise.
Perform routine maintenance and repairs on nursery equipment, including vehicles, forklifts, and hand tools, and ensure equipment is in safe working condition.
Load and unload plants, trees, and other nursery products into cars, trucks, trailers, vans, and other vehicles to assist customers and colleagues.
Provide friendly and helpful customer service.
Follow safety protocols and guidelines, including proper lifting techniques, safe equipment operation, and safe merchandise handling.
Perform manual labor to maintain and stock the nursery and fulfill customer orders.
Transport and mix topsoil, fertilizer, peat moss, and other materials using hand tools to condition soil.
Dig, rake, and sift soil to fill containers and boxes for planting.
Be available to work any day of the week; schedules may include weekdays and weekends.
Perform other duties and tasks as assigned.
