About The Position

Fermilab’s Infrastructure Services Division is hiring a Seasonal On-Call Groundskeeper for the Grounds Maintenance Group in the Roads & Grounds Department. Under direct supervision, this position performs work to maintain Fermilab site roads, grounds, and related facilities. The role is onsite at the Batavia office. It is seasonal and on-call, with no guaranteed minimum hours. Work may be required any time between 4 a.m. and 10 p.m., and mandatory overtime may be required. Snow-removal staff must be available to respond promptly at all hours.

Requirements

• Must be at least 18 years of age and have a valid state-issued driver’s license.
• Ability to lift 50 pounds.
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• At least 2 years of groundskeeping experience.
• Basic computer skills, including MS Office.
• Ability to work independently and harmoniously in a group setting.
• Ability to abide by all environmental, safety, and health regulations.
• Willingness to respect, understand, and value individual differences that embody laboratory principles of diversity and inclusion.
• Availability to respond promptly to snow removal at all hours.
• Ability to work onsite at the Batavia office.

Nice To Haves

• Previous experience in landscape construction and maintenance, or in heavy equipment operations and maintenance, is desirable.
• Previous experience in snow removal operations.

Responsibilities

• Perform landscape maintenance activities, including trimming and pruning.
• Remove snow.
• Maintain and clean underground stormwater drainage systems.
• Perform heavy physical labor.
