About The Position

In the role of Groundskeeper, you will be responsible for supporting the Facilities Director in maintaining the overall appearance and upkeep of outdoor areas within the Academy Mapleton Hill (AMH) community. To perform well in this role, you should have previous experience in grounds keeping and knowledge about the care and maintenance of plants and outdoor spaces. Responsible for supporting the Facilities Director in maintaining all landscaping and grounds maintenance associated with the community.

Requirements

  • Familiarity with grounds keeping equipment and tools
  • Physical stamina and strength, able to lift and carry heavy loads
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Willingness to work in varying weather conditions
  • Possess a valid driving license
  • Strong knowledge of safety procedures and use of personal protective equipment
  • Ability to work flexible hours, and occasional holidays, as required
  • Ability to work on call and be available for emergency repairs
  • Effective verbal and written communication
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Honesty, integrity, sense of humor, and pleasant demeanor – ability to stay calm under pressure
  • Empathy toward the elderly and to geriatric issues and challenges
  • Proven experience working as a groundskeeper or similar role
  • Knowledge of basic horticulture practices and principles
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Fluency in both English and Spanish

Responsibilities

  • Mow, edge and trim lawns and landscaped areas
  • Plant, maintain, and remove plants, flowers, and trees
  • Water and fertilize lawns and landscaped areas
  • Prune and shape bushes and trees
  • Remove debris and litter from grounds
  • Operate and maintain grounds keeping equipment and tools
  • Perform irrigation repairs and adjustments
  • Prepare and maintain flower beds and gardens seasonally
  • Repair and maintain hardscapes, walls, walkway and other structures on the grounds
  • Remove snow and ice from walkways and roads within the community (shovel and/or plow)
  • Keeping detailed records of maintenance schedules and tasks completed
  • Communicate with supervisors and co-workers to coordinate and prioritize daily tasks
