About The Position

HES is a national facilities management provider focused on educational institutions. Groundskeepers produce quality landscaping services that meet or exceed client and management standards. Work may include mowing, trimming, planting, watering, fertilizing, digging, raking, sprinkler installation and repair, seasonal snow removal, and upkeep of grounds and landscaping features. The role also includes preparing company trucks and equipment, maintaining tools and machinery, and installing and caring for flowers, shrubs, trees, lawns, and other plantings. Other job-related tasks may be assigned, and reasonable accommodation may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. This is a full-time position with work hours that may vary up to 12 hours per day. The role involves heavy physical work, outdoor work in extreme weather, and possible exposure to loud noise. Requirements

Valid state driver's license.
Ability to operate lawn-care machinery, including mowers, edgers, and backpack blowers.
Good communication skills.
Organizational skills and ability to prioritize tasks.
Problem-solving ability and capacity to find resolutions.
Self-starting approach; ability to follow directions, adhere to a work schedule, and focus on details.
Self-motivation and ability to work with minimal supervision.
Flexibility and ability to work effectively in a team while maintaining a professional and respectful demeanor with coworkers, clients, and vendors.
Ability to perform heavy lifting, pushing, and pulling of landscaping equipment and materials; leverage 80 pounds of a walk-behind mower over curbs; lift and carry up to 50 pounds; and lift branches and limbs.
Ability to push, pull, grip, and squeeze tools and other items.
Ability to walk up to 10 miles per day, sometimes uphill and on uneven terrain and often while carrying equipment.
Ability to bend and kneel for up to 9 hours or more per day.
Ability to spray pesticides and herbicides and use a hand saw.
Ability to work in extreme weather conditions and in environments that may be loud; earplugs may be required.

Some lawn-care experience is helpful.

Responsibilities

Load and secure gas cans, mowers, and other equipment on company trucks and trailers.
Mow turf using various mowers; line-trim and edge; and sweep or blow leaves and clippings.
Prune shrubs and trees, clear debris, pull weeds, and keep sites free of trash, limbs, and rocks.
Operate powered groundskeeping equipment, including mowers, tractors, twin-axle vehicles, chain saws, electric clippers, sod cutters, and pruning saws.
Shovel snow from walks, driveways, and parking lots and spread salt in those areas.
Care for established lawns through mulching, aerating, weeding, thatch removal, trimming, and edging.
Seed and prepare areas, apply erosion-control blankets and treatments, and water and groom trees, shrubs, plants, flowers, bulbs, seeds, and sod.
Mix, spray, or spread fertilizers, herbicides, and insecticides using hand or automatic sprayers or spreaders; perform aquatic applications as applicable.
Maintain sidewalks, driveways, parking lots, fountains, planters, and other grounds features.
Prepare soil and beds for flower or groundcover installation, apply mulch and soil amendments, and perform core aeration.
Plant, prune, remove, or replace shrubs, plants, flowers, trees, and sod as needed; place plant material at appropriate depth, size, spacing, and location; water it correctly; and edge beds or establish new bed edges.
Wash trucks and equipment; maintain and repair tools, equipment, fences, benches, and minor outbuildings using hand and power tools.
Change equipment blades and oil, clean air filters, and grease machines.
