About The Position

The University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV) is seeking a Grounds Maintenance Worker 3 specializing in Tree Care for its Facilities Management department. This role involves performing a wide range of landscape and garden duties, including planting, pruning, mowing, trimming, watering, fertilizing, weeding, and snow/ice removal. The position requires operating various hand and power tools, mowers, trenching devices, forklifts, and hoists. Incumbents are expected to work independently with a strong knowledge of gardening, landscape methods, and grounds tree service work. Familiarity with power equipment such as chain saws, stump grinders, limb chippers, and dump trucks is necessary. This role will specifically focus on tree care, adhering to ANSI Standards for pruning, fertilization, planting, and removal. The job requires willingness to work at heights, climb trees, and learn proper knot tying for safety. The incumbent will need to acquire knowledge of tree safety, tree rescue, and herbicide/fertilizer application. A valid State of Nevada Driver's license is mandatory, and employees must obtain forklift and man lift operator licenses within their first 11 months of employment.

Requirements

A working knowledge of gardening and landscape methods, techniques, material and equipment.
Knowledge of methods, materials, and tools used in grounds tree service work.
Ability to safely and properly operate a wide variety of grounds maintenance tools and equipment.
Must become familiar with power equipment such as chain saws, stump grinders, limb chippers and dump trucks.
Willingness to work above ground.
Willingness to climb trees at precarious heights.
Willingness to learn proper knot tying for safety.
Must possess and maintain a valid State of Nevada Driver’s license.
Employees must obtain forklift operator and man lift operator licenses by 11 month evaluation of hire and maintain throughout employment with the University.
A Valid driver’s license is required at the time of appointment and as a condition for continuing employment.

Operate hand and power tools, power mowers, tractor mowers, trenching devices, forklifts, and hoists.
Safely and properly operate a wide variety of grounds maintenance tools and equipment.
Become familiar with power equipment such as chain saws, stump grinders, limb chippers, and dump trucks.
Work with the Grounds Department assigned to tree care and follow ANSI Standards for tree care, pruning, fertilization, planting, and removal.
Work above ground and climb trees at precarious heights.
Learn proper knot tying for safety.
Acquire and meet standards regarding knowledge of tree safety, tree rescue, and herbicide and fertilizer application.
Obtain forklift operator and man lift operator licenses by the 11-month evaluation of hire and maintain them throughout employment.
