About The Position

The Groundman is an entry point to a career in construction and maintenance of the nation’s power grid. The position assists a team in building, repairing, and maintaining overhead electrical distribution systems and reports to the Foreman. Work is performed outdoors at construction job sites in varying and sometimes extreme weather conditions, and may involve extended assignments, including out-of-state work. The role requires rigorous physical labor and availability for outages, storms, emergencies, and on-call rotation.

Requirements

Have a valid driver’s license and be able to obtain a CDL within 60 days.
Be willing to travel long distances on short notice.
Be able to lift, carry, push, or pull materials and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
Be willing to work for extended periods at job locations, including out-of-state assignments.
Be willing to work outside normal business hours, including weekends, holidays, emergency callouts, and overtime.
Be able to communicate by talking, listening, and using hand signals.
Be able to stand, walk, handle objects, operate tools or controls, and reach with hands and arms.

Responsibilities

Perform new construction, maintenance, and repairs on overhead distribution systems while prioritizing safety.
Assist with installing and repairing overhead power lines, poles, insulators, conductors, and related hardware.
Maintain company vehicles, equipment, and tools in good working order.
Follow safety protocols, including using PPE and insulated protective cover to isolate differences of potential.
Inspect rubber goods and personal protective equipment and understand when PPE must be worn.
Work outdoors in varying conditions, including extreme heat, cold, rain, wind, and storm conditions.
Be available for outages, storms, emergencies, and on-call rotation.
