About The Position

The Groundman is an entry point to a career in construction and maintenance of the nation's power grid. The role assists a team in building, repairing, and maintaining underground electrical distribution systems and reports to the Foreman. Work includes installing and repairing underground facilities, conductors, and related hardware; maintaining excavation and pulling equipment; and following safety procedures. The position involves rigorous physical labor and work outdoors in varying and sometimes extreme weather conditions. The Groundman may be required to travel, work extended assignments away from home, and respond to outages, storms, emergencies, and an on-call rotation.

Requirements

• Valid driver's license and ability to obtain a CDL within 60 days.
• Willingness to travel long distances on short notice.
• Ability to lift, carry, push, or pull materials and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
• Willingness to work extended periods at job locations, including out-of-state assignments.
• Willingness to work outside normal business hours, including weekends, holidays, emergency callouts, and overtime.
• Ability to perform rigorous physical labor.
• Ability to communicate by talking, listening, and using hand signals.
• Ability to stand, walk, handle objects, operate tools or controls, and reach with hands and arms.

Responsibilities

• Build, repair, and maintain underground electrical distribution systems.
• Perform new construction and maintenance and repair work on underground distribution systems while prioritizing safety.
• Help install and repair underground facilities, conductors, and related hardware.
• Maintain excavation equipment, including backhoes, trenchers, excavators, and pulling equipment.
• Follow safety protocols, use PPE, understand insulated protective cover, and inspect rubber goods and PPE.
• Work outdoors in varying conditions, including extreme heat, cold, rain, wind, and storms.
• Be available for outages, storms, emergencies, and an on-call rotation.
