About The Position

The Groundman BESS position is an entry point to a career in construction and maintenance of the nation’s power grid. The role assists a team with building, repairing, and maintaining underground electrical distribution systems, including performing new construction of BESS systems. The Groundman reports to the Foreman and performs physically demanding work at construction sites, often outdoors in extreme or inclement weather. The position may involve long-distance travel, out-of-state assignments, emergency callouts, and work outside normal business hours.

Requirements

Have a valid driver’s license and be able to obtain a CDL within 60 days.
Be willing to travel long distances on short notice and work extended periods at job locations, including out-of-state assignments.
Be able to lift, carry, push, or pull materials and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
Be willing to work outside normal business hours, including weekends, holidays, emergency callouts, and overtime.
Be able to communicate by talking, listening, and using hand signals.
Be able to stand and walk frequently, and use hands and fingers to handle objects, operate tools or controls, and reach with hands and arms.

Responsibilities

Perform new construction of BESS systems while prioritizing safety.
Assist with installing and repairing underground facilities, conductors, and related hardware.
Maintain excavation equipment, including backhoes, trenchers, excavators, and pulling equipment.
Follow safety protocols and use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), including insulated protective cover to isolate differences of potential.
Inspect rubber goods and PPE, and understand when PPE must be worn.
Work outdoors in varying conditions, including extreme heat, cold, rain, wind, and storms.
Be available for outages, storms, emergencies, and on-call rotation.
