About The Position
The Groundman is an entry point to a career in construction and maintenance of the nation's power grid. The role assists a team with building, repairing, and maintaining overhead electrical distribution systems and reports to the Foreman. Work is performed outdoors at construction job sites in a range of environmental conditions, including extreme heat, cold, rain, wind, and storms. The position involves rigorous physical labor and may require travel, extended assignments, and work outside normal business hours. Pike provides construction, repair, and engineering services for electric and gas utilities and telecommunications companies, along with turnkey renewable projects. Requirements
- Hold a valid driver's license and be able to obtain a CDL within 60 days.
- Be willing to travel long distances on short notice.
- Be able to lift, carry, push, or pull materials and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
- Be able to work for extended periods at job locations, including out-of-state assignments.
- Be willing to work outside normal business hours, including weekends, holidays, emergency callouts, and overtime.
- Be able to talk, listen, and use hand signals to communicate.
- Be able to stand, walk, handle objects, operate tools or controls, and reach with hands and arms.
- Be able to work around fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts, vibration, loud noise, and extreme job-site conditions.
Responsibilities
- Perform new construction, maintenance, and repairs on overhead distribution systems with safety as a priority.
- Assist with installing and repairing overhead power lines, poles, insulators, conductors, and related hardware.
- Maintain company vehicles, equipment, and tools in good working order.
- Follow safety protocols, use PPE, and understand insulated protective cover used to isolate differences of potential.
- Inspect rubber goods and personal protective equipment and understand when PPE must be worn.
- Work outdoors in varying and sometimes extreme weather conditions.
- Be available for outages, storms, emergencies, and an on-call rotation.
