About The Position

The Groundman position is an entry point to a career in construction and maintenance of the nation's power grid. The employee assists a team in building, repairing, and maintaining overhead electrical distribution systems and reports to the Foreman. The role involves rigorous physical labor and work at construction job sites in varying and sometimes extreme weather conditions. It may require travel, out-of-state assignments, and availability for outages, storms, emergencies, on-call rotations, weekends, holidays, and overtime.

Requirements

Valid driver's license.
Ability to obtain a CDL within 60 days.
Willingness to travel long distances on short notice.
Ability to lift, carry, push, or pull materials and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
Ability to work for extended periods at job locations, including out-of-state assignments.
Willingness to work outside normal business hours, including weekends, holidays, emergency callouts, and overtime.
Ability to perform rigorous physical labor.
Ability to talk, listen, and use hand signals to communicate; frequently stand, walk, handle objects, operate tools or controls, and reach with hands and arms.

Responsibilities

Perform new construction, maintenance, and repairs on overhead distribution systems while prioritizing safety.
Help install and repair overhead power lines, poles, insulators, conductors, and related hardware.
Maintain company vehicles, equipment, and tools in good working order.
Follow safety protocols, including PPE use and understanding insulated protective cover used to isolate differences of potential.
Inspect rubber goods and personal protective equipment (PPE), and understand when PPE must be worn.
Work outdoors in varying conditions, including extreme heat, cold, rain, wind, and inclement weather.
Be available to work outages, storms, emergencies, and on-call rotations.
