About The Position

The Groundman is an entry point to a career in construction and maintenance of the power grid. The role assists a team in building, repairing, and maintaining overhead electrical distribution systems, and reports to the Foreman. It involves outdoor work in varying and sometimes extreme weather, rigorous physical labor, and responding to outages, storms, and emergencies, including participation in an on-call rotation.

Requirements

Valid driver’s license.
Able to obtain a CDL within 60 days.
Willingness to travel long distances on short notice.
Ability to lift, carry, push, or pull materials and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
Willingness to work for extended periods at job locations, including out-of-state assignments.
Willingness to work outside normal business hours, including weekends, holidays, emergency callouts, and overtime.
Ability to perform rigorous physical labor.
Ability to communicate by talking, listening, and using hand signals.
Ability to stand, walk, handle objects, operate tools or controls, and reach with hands and arms.

Responsibilities

Perform new construction, maintenance, and repair of overhead distribution systems while prioritizing safety.
Assist with installing and repairing overhead power lines, poles, insulators, conductors, and related hardware.
Maintain company vehicles, equipment, and tools in good working order.
Follow safety protocols, including proper PPE use and understanding insulated protective cover for isolating differences of potential.
Inspect rubber goods and personal protective equipment, and understand when PPE must be worn.
Work outdoors in varying environmental conditions, including extreme heat, cold, rain, wind, and storms.
Be available for outages, storms, emergencies, and on-call rotation.
