About The Position

The Grocery Dept Manager leads team member engagement and development for their span of care, including recognition, feedback, coaching, performance management, training, succession planning, and career discussions. The role directs Leads and Team Leaders and is accountable for area operations and financial results, including shrink, productivity, safety, scheduling, staffing forecasts, and resolving team member and customer conflicts. The manager oversees execution of corporate plans to manage services and products effectively, maximize sales and productivity, and meet budget responsibilities in the P&L. The role also drives safety, compliance, and store condition management; supports Meijer’s culture; and identifies and implements process improvements. Additional duties may be assigned or required.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
At least 4 years of retail, grocery, or customer service experience.
Passion for providing industry-leading service.
Ability to communicate clear and precise direction to team members.
Ability to analyze financial and statistical information and use it to make informed decisions.
Ability to lead an organization that practices working safely at all times.
Proactive and creative thinking applied to the business.
Thorough understanding of seasonal and diverse merchandising to meet customer and community needs and gain sales and market share.

Responsibilities

Engage with team members to ensure appropriate onboarding, training, development, coaching, and feedback.
Identify talent and hold career discussions to support store staffing and a diversified talent pipeline for team member and leadership roles.
Have candid discussions with team members to uphold Meijer standards and support growth within the organization.
Oversee execution of corporate plans and manage services and products to maximize sales and productivity.
Own area budget line items in the P&L and be accountable for area operations and financial results, including shrink and productivity.
Drive safety, compliance, and overall condition management throughout the store, following store compliance procedures.
Ensure Team Leaders and Leads provide guidance, assign daily work, and address team member training needs.
Resolve team member and customer conflicts and oversee scheduling and staffing forecasts.
Identify and implement process improvements and serve as a steward of Meijer culture.
