Requirements

Customer service skills.
Effective communication skills.
Knowledge of basic math, including counting, addition, and subtraction.

Responsibilities

Help customers discover products, answer questions about grocery items, and recommend products that meet their needs.
Inform customers about food specials and stay current with present, future, seasonal, and special ads.
Provide customers with fresh and non-perishable grocery products they have ordered.
Check product freshness, review sell-by dates, and take appropriate action.
Label, stock, and inventory department merchandise.
Report product ordering or shipping discrepancies to the department manager.
Follow food safety regulations and guidelines, maintain proper temperatures in cases and coolers, and maintain temperature logs.
Help create a welcoming environment by answering questions about products sold in the department and throughout the store.
Comply with safety procedures, identify unsafe conditions, and notify store management.
Inspect equipment as part of preventive maintenance and notify the appropriate department or store manager when repairs are needed.
Notify management of customer or employee accidents.
Work cooperatively in a fast-paced and sometimes stressful environment, and manage conflict reasonably and cooperatively.
Handle customer and business information with honesty and integrity, follow directions, and seek assistance when needed.
Provide support and assistance through direct interaction with minors, individuals with special needs, and older adults.
