About The Position

This posting is for a 4-month Winter 2027 Student placement with a start date of January 2027, and end date of April 2027. By applying to this job posting, you will be considered for multiple roles available across RBC Financial Crimes, including Data Analyst, Data Scientist, and Data Engineer. The role involves designing and implementing projects to monitor the efficiency and effectiveness of investigations conducted by the Financial Crimes team, analyzing and summarizing project results for a broad audience, and utilizing programs like Power BI for trend analysis. You will also support the Quality Assurance group in executing process strategies against large datasets using Python, and work as part of an agile team to deliver business needs. The position encourages seeking out better ways of doing things, promoting analytics across the enterprise, and using business domain knowledge to lead the analytics process and identify insights.

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled at a Canadian post-secondary institution with a focus on data science, computer science, mathematics, statistics, machine learning.
  • Programming skills in one or more languages (particularly Python).
  • Ability to perform data extract, transform, and load processes with a variety of data types.
  • Excellent interpersonal and highly developed communication skills (verbal and written).
  • Creative and analytical thinker who is self-driven and capable of working in a fast paced environment.
  • Ability to perform complex data analysis on large volumes of data and present findings to stakeholders.
  • Strong MS Office skills – Word, Outlook, Excel and PowerPoint.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of design, development, and implementation utilizing current analytics technologies and architecture, as well as data warehouse concepts and methodologies.
  • Ability to learn and absorb new concepts (in business and in systems) quickly and apply new knowledge.

Responsibilities

  • Design and implement projects to monitor the efficiency and effectiveness of investigations conducted by the Financial Crimes team.
  • Analyze and summarize the results of these projects to a broad audience for awareness and actioning.
  • Utilize programs such a Power BI to gather and organize results for trend analysis and targeted commentary.
  • Support the Quality Assurance group in executing process strategies against large datasets using python language.
  • Constantly seek out better ways to do things, new tools, new technologies, new processes.
  • Work as part of an agile team responsible for end-to-end delivery of business needs.
  • Use business domain knowledge to independently lead the analytics process to identify valuable and innovative insights.
  • Promote analytics across the enterprise to enable RBC to become a data-driven organization.
