About The Position

This position involves performing essential greenhouse tasks, interacting with guests to sell plants and related products, and understanding sales procedures and basic accounting practices. The role requires maintaining the greenhouse environment, practicing plant growth techniques, identifying plant needs and issues, and contributing to the Integrated Pest Management (IPM) program. Additionally, the technician will provide plant care advice, assist with decorating schemes and promotions, manage greenhouse inventories, and maintain horticultural knowledge. The role also includes recording inventory, assisting with house decorations, communicating needs to supervisors, adhering to safety regulations, and collaborating with other departments to ensure guest satisfaction. Professional conduct, positive staff morale, and efficient work habits are expected. Maintaining order, ensuring safety, and adhering to company standards for appearance and service are crucial. The position requires flexibility in work schedule, including weekends and holidays, and the ability to develop positive working relationships. Specific physical requirements include color vision, operating gardening tools, performing basic math and cash transactions, speaking and understanding English, lifting up to 75 pounds, walking up to 3 miles, and performing various physical movements like reaching, bending, kneeling, and standing for extended periods. The role also involves working outdoors in various weather conditions and indoors in extreme heat.

Requirements

Greenhouse or horticulture experience preferred
Valid Driver’s License and at least 21 years of age, or 20 years of age with at least two years of licensed driving experience.

Responsibilities

Assist in maintaining the integrity of the greenhouse environment, including irrigation and climate control systems.
Practice basic greenhouse/plant growth techniques such as watering, potting, fertilizing, washing pots, staking, and pruning.
Identify plant needs and indicators of disease, stress, or insect infestations.
Perform daily monitoring and control measures related to the IPM program.
Answer guest questions with accurate information and demonstrate a friendly and helpful personality.
Provide advice to guests about the selection, purchase, and care of plants.
Assist in the preparation of major decorating schemes, promotions, amenities, special tasks, and programs.
Maintain greenhouse inventories of equipment, tools, and supplies.
Maintain current horticultural and plant knowledge, technical updates, and provide support for the IPM program.
Record Garden Shop and Greenhouse inventory.
Assist in regular house decoration and decoration for special occasions.
Communicate needs with Greenhouse Supervisor or Greenhouse Grower.
Adhere to all safety rules and regulations and wear safety equipment as required.
Work alongside other departments and provide support to ensure guest satisfaction.
Interact with fellow staff and guests in a professional, courteous manner.
Positively influence staff morale and exemplify a cooperative attitude.
Work productively and efficiently with or without supervision when performing routine tasks.
Maintain order on job site and within greenhouse storage areas.
Ensure safety of guests, employees, and self, anywhere on the property.

Perform basic mathematical skills including addition, subtraction, multiplication, division and perform and record cash/credit transactions accurately.
Speak, read and write the English language and communicate in a clear and congenial manner.
Hear verbal instructions, directions and warnings.
Lift up to 75 pounds from ground level to 3 feet and 20 pounds from ground level to overhead and carry a distance of up to 100 feet with/ without assistance.
Walk up to 3 miles per day.
Reach with hands and arms, bend, kneel, stoop, twist and flex arms, walk up and down stairs/inclines, sit, climb up/down ladders or stand for up to 5 hours at a time.
See close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
Able to work outside in all weather conditions, as well as inside the greenhouses in extreme heat.
